I just want to say a big Thank You to all veterans for your service.

I'm not a veteran, I did sweat the draft when I graduated HS in '72 but with the war winding down in Vietnam I guess they didn't want me.

My dad was in Germany late in WW2 as a staff sargent in the motor pool, He drove some 1-star general around Germany after the war. My youngest brother just retired from the Wisconsin NG and served 2 tours in Iraq. His daughter is a Navy Diver and wants to do underwater welding when she gets out. She's on her 2 year so it will be a while.

So again to all you veterans, Thank You !!!

Thanks mkekflyers, you know I look back on those days of serving together with a great bunch of guys from all over the country thrown together, some voluntarily, some drafted, but we all made it work and built lifetime memories. My heart aches every day for those that didn't come home, but we carry them with us and hold them up proudly as brothers, and sisters. I think that's what brought me to RVing. The same great bunch of guys, and gals, and we brought our families along making the memories even sweeter. Thanks to all who served!

Yeah, I miss everyone.
I was at nearby NAS Jacksonville for Navy AE "A" school, summer of 1971. Not much left at NAS Cecil Field anymore. Only FLA Nat'l Guard and Coast Guard Interdiction Sqdn, per Wiki, anyway.

So sad about Cecil Field. I went there years afterwards to show my wife, and it was all abandoned and overgrown. I looked in my barracks room which was new in 1984 and it was all moldy and rusty. It was like an important part of my youth had died, never to be returned to again. I did AE school at NAS Millington, Memphis TN. I don't know what year they moved A schools there.

You know what they call men in the Air Force? Airmen. Like something out of a dang funny book. Airman. How you gonna like it when somebody calls you "airman"? By dog, I just don't think I'll stand for it.

Do you remember the scene from NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS...Well, I was an Airman, and proud of it. Member of the USAF Presidential Honor Guard, stationed at Bolling from 1975-78...Used to tell the Army Guard members that I could have been in the Army; but I passed the test

Hmmm

So now that Space is becoming a branch of service, I wonder if those members will be called Spaceman and Senior Spaceman? I assume the NCO ranks will be still be Sergeants, etc.

I found that photo going through some old unit pictures. I thought it would be cool to use as an avatar; but I decided another might be better after I read about a Marine that wore his dress uniform with medals to a wedding as a guest. The bride asked him to leave since she was being upstaged on her day.

Maybe this one …
