Does the Navy still have Warrant Officers? I was active AF from 1960-1964 and the only branch that still had and still does is the Army as I understand.

The DOD phased the WO's out and replaced them with the E8 and E9 grades back when I was in.

We had Warrants when I was in the Navy. 1970-1974.

I think we still had one WO pilot at that time.

The Navy brought back the WO's in '65, I was promoted to WO1 in '67 (A Pinstripe), and retired as a CWO3 in '76. As a temporary WO I was advanced to E-8 and E-9 in my permanent grade until I accepted permanent as a CWO3. We enjoyed great respect from both the enlisted and commissioned communities. I feel there is a need for both the E-8/E-9 and the WO's on the larger ships. The Navy commissions WO's at the CWO2 level, where the Army does not grant commissions to their WO's.
