Sea trials on George Bancroft, SSBN 643. That was enough for me!

I've heard that the "initiation" (hazing) is quite severe...

Can anyone attest to that?

As long as you don't tell a bunch of M div knuckle draggers "You can't tape me up!" Its not bad. lol. I personaly think that we are raising a weak bunch these days that have turned harmless traditions into "hazing".

Ya think?

Notice I had to put my ship decal right under the bubble. Decals courtesy of eBay, can be had in many, many colors and various sizes.

I’ll never forget the time underway when the engineer came aft and there was an electrician duck taped and hanging upside down from the main steam crossover valve.

He looked to see who it was, swung him out of the way, checked something, moved him again on his way forward. Never said a word to anyone. Guess he figured he needed it [emoji3]

Of course that was 30+ years ago. Probably frown on that stuff now.

I WANTED a boomer from the side decal. Couldn't find one. Couldn't even find an SSN side view ;(
You work with what you can find. Pretty cool all the colors and sizes they had. For both sub and retired decals I tried to match the TT colors. I have the retired decals on the back windows of two vehicles, one white on a black Transit Connect and the other silver on my silver Exploder.
I was the Assistant Combat Systems Officer for COMSUBRON2 in New London CT for two years with, at the time, the oldest 598 and the newest 688I fast attacks being built between my division and department head sea tours on boomers. I had the joy of touring my now departed Dad on USS Sculpin SSN 591 and the USS Pittsburgh SSN 721 (hometown 60 miles north of Pittsburgh), samples of the oldest and newest, the same afternoon. Boy, was he proud and happy! Great memories.

Glad your dad enjoyed it. I've given many a tour back in the day. I didn't retire, 10.5 years though. Did two years in the Fire Control and GM division on the sub tender L.Y. Spear AS-36; Two years on the USS Phoenix SSN-702 then 3 years as an instructor at Sub School Norfolk. Last year as FT division head filling chief billet as a first class on the Minneapolis-St. Paul SSN 708. Of course, did sub school, "A" school and "C" school in New London to start it all.

Lots of submariners on here.....

Was on the 676 and 719 out of New London. Think the older one has parts in the museum there now. I must be getting old.

But, on the subject of fathers, mine got his name picked for a father son cruise from Florida to CT back in 1980. Spent a week riding back up with us and still tells stories. They even let him drive for a while.

Hometown is 15 miles south of Pittsburgh [emoji3]

New truck decals on, color matched, of course. Race red F150. And my before and after TVs showing my Navy pride. Little round sticker on the Explorer left is a USS George C. Marshall SSBN 654 ship's sticker. "Patience, Not Weakness" ship's motto. Enemies and foolish people confuse the two Left side Explorer is a Vets Honor Guard sticker. Still couldn't find a boomer outline. The sub one had a bulge like a drydeck shelter that I sliced the top of to fill in the appearance of a missile deck.

I am one of those who was not in the Navy. I did work at a couple of Nuke power plants and was around a bunch of ex Navy Nukes. They were a bunch of good people and stories. Also worked with a guy named Donald Duck who is named in a book about Special Ops.
My last 6 years was spent building subs and carriers to be near my daughter, her Navy husband, and their kids. Could not keep Grandma away. Being 6’-3” and 260 pounds, the carrier fit better.

Amazing how many ring knockers got “torqued” when asked if they were on a sub or a target.

When I worked for Naval Reactors, I was assigned to NSTR-Pittsburgh at Bettis in West Mifflin and then after 7 years transferred to ANSTR-Pittsburgh in Monroeville for another 5 years before retiring from the Navy in 2003. We lived from 91 to 2003 in Rostraver Township. Our son graduated from Belle Vernon Area High School and our Daughter went there until her Junior year when we moved to Arkansas. Funny how you run across people on different sites or in different areas that have a lot of common experiences and locations with you.

I spent time as an instructor at S1W from 80 to 82, rode the CALHOUN (SSBN-630) from 82 to 87, and was instructor at NFAS in Orlando from 87 to 91 when I got commissioned. 91 to 03 was an LDO. Currently retired again and camping/fishing the good life in Arkansas and Mississippi.
