Submarine Veterans

After exchanging private messages with another FROG submarine veteran, it got me to wondering... How many US submarine service veterans are on these forums ??
Must be more than just the two of us...!

I'll kick it off...
1975 - 1980 USS GUITARRO (SSN-665) Fast Attack out of San Diego, CA
Radioman RM2-SS

Retiring from my own carpentry business in July and hitting the road in our 2011 Georgetown with my DW and our furbaby Foxie...

Coming to shore duty it’s night and day from our community. I can’t wait to get back. At least when I was on the Michigan we still called y’all radioman and my skipper addressed me as TM2 at the time. Times change but some things never die. Thank you as well for everything you’ve done. What type of wood working did you do? I’ve built a few small projects but I also did a full size futon and 75” wide entertainment center when I was in High School.

Submersible Skimmer here

Sixteen years surface Navy then three years on the USS Henry L. Stimson SSBN 655G (1978-1981). Retired from Navy while serving at NETPDC Pensacola in 1983. Look forward to sharing sea stories at future FROG events.

I'm not a Navy Vet but when the kids were young we were camping at Point Beach State Park in WI and went to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc WI. The USS Cobia, the most intact World War II Submarine in the nation, is moored there. We went on a tour and the tour guide actually served on the sub during WWII. It was awesome to hear his personal accounts. Actually 28 subs were built in Manitowoc during WWII.

I'm retired Navy, but I'm a skimmer. I did do a couple of days on the USS Woodrow Wilson as a midshipman, however.

Another tie to the silent service is that as a kid we used to watch the submarine races at night.

SSBN 642 was Kamehameha, Robert E. Lee was SSBN 601. I was on the USS Pickerel SS 524 then the USS Kamehameha SSBN 642 Blue Crew (A Div) when she was a boomer. Got out and joined the Army National Guard.

Was the Wilson(SSBN/SSN 624) already converted to a fast attack sub when you where onboard or was it still a Lafayette Class Boomer ?

Check out the Submarine Museum in New London... I believe that they have a website and you can purchase submarine, hats, decals, etc... Maybe they have a flag that is not so expensive.....
