That would be something useful for many. I've been able to use my VA card for just about everything, since I have a service-connected disability. I never really liked the idea of carrying a copy of my DD 214.

Just be aware of the statement "The new cards won’t replace VA medical cards or official defense retiree cards, and will not carry any force of law behind them." Just because you flash that, doesn't mean places have to acknowledge it.

Yea, saw that...like much of what is done for Veterans, the card is meaningless and maybe, MAYBE you can get a discount at some store if you show it, otherwise it just takes up space in the wallet.

Lowe's has a 10% off for vets. But it is only thru use of the Lowe's card. You get your vet status put on the card at store customer service and the discount applies to all purchases with the card. In store or online.

I am not going to get the VA card. I already have my military retiree card.

Not true. They no longer use a retiree ID card or anything else though. You must register online or through a call to their customer service. They then use your phone number to verify your ID. I have used the discount there many times in just the past few weeks. It is pretty easy and painless.

Oh, and I don't have a Lowe's card. Home Depot still uses your ID card or other proof of Vet status (DD214).

I went to Lowe's a few months ago. Went to check out I asked the cashier about military discount. She said they'd changed the way they did it. I'd have to go to the service desk. I went to the service desk. And gave my VA medical card to the worker. She keyed me into the system ask me for my phone number and said from now on all I'd have to do is give my phone number when checking out to get the military discount. I've went back since then and gave my phone number and got the discount. Just me but it easier for me then getting my VA card out.

You can also go to: www.ebenefit.va.gov and get a "proof of service and honorable discharge" card to use for that purpose that doesn't divulge more information than you want divulged. Name address, DOB, Branch of service, issue date

My DH gets the discount because I set it up with my veterans status. I don't have to be there for Lowes, but I do for Home Depot.

This is exactly what they did here, but they wouldn't do it at the service desk. I have heard some places will, some won't . But the phone number is way easier. I'm glad they changed to this. I hope Home Depot does also.

I'm still waiting to get my card. A lot of people (kids) don't even know what a DD214 is. No clue how long it will take to get mine but it's been months now. When they first opened the site for the veterans we broke the system so they had to shut it down for a while. I filled mine out after they got it back up a few weeks later but still no card.

Sound like Lowe's policy is different store to store. I got the lowe's card when I signed up fro vets discount. Nothing said about phone num. Down site was I started getting there junk emails but soon got it stopped by clicking on opt out. Later RJD
