Wellesley Island State Park

We love the area and love staying at Wellesley Island State Park. The sites are old and need updating but the location is wonderful. The town on the island is old and quaint with friendly people.

Live in the area don't own a bike anymore so haven't done the bike weekend. As for the campgrounds there are a lot near by 5 state campgrounds within 25 miles 2 of those are less than 10 miles. Now comes the problem You pretty much have to reserve a site 9 months in advance if yo want a real nice site with electricity. If it is only to stay at night and you don't about electricity you will probably be able to find one. Your best bet for this year would be across the American bridge on WELLESLEY ISLAND at
WELLESLEY ISLAND STATE PARK, NY

It is the largest Park in the area about 12 miles from Alexbay

Really enjoy Alex Bay area. Used to boat on the St Lawrence seaway frequently. My neighbor in Fayetteville, NY, owned one of those quaint islands with a neat summer home. Moved away before we ever got to visit....opportunity lost!!

We used the area to jump across and traverse the Rideau up to Ottawa and back. Most memorable vacation of our lives!!

Kept our 26ft cruiser on Oneida Lake in Sylvan Beach. Single engine. Had it trucked up to Alex Bay and then back down following vacation. That Lake Ontario is tooooo risky!! Wife, 2 young kids ( at the time ) and a guard dog German Shepard that would eat you if you boarded our boat! Never any issue! Memories!!

Oneida was risky enough for me with a 19 footer open bow. My boating course textbook listed Oneida as a challenging lake - rapid fire waves on the shallow western portion. I was at Fisher Bay.
