I saw the same words of caution when researching front racks for my mountain bikes...it's still worth looking into though as not everybody has that issue. Headlights and signals can get blocked too...depending on the bike and rack design.

Do you "tinker" with your bikes mechanically? What about partially disassembling for transport in truck bed (or anywhere else for that matter). Not a good option for a weekend, but for a 3 month stay maybe worth it?

Also...is your truck a long bed? You may be able to go across behind the cab with one of them?

Do this all the time. Carry a 'trike' across the bed rails on a tilting platform. Use small remote controlled winch to load and unload. Trick is the ramps.

For the cost of transport for a once a year trip it my be more economical and easier to rent bikes when you arrive
Ive rented out of state and although not cheap ($170 with insure included for the day) a heck of a lot cheaper than the $600-$1000 to transport
I use a Bike for a toad so my realistic move was a class C (2860ds) pulling a small trailer
Toy haulers are great but I didn't want to buy a one ton pickup and a new Camper
$$$&&$$$ instead of $$$$
