My Issue with RV ing at Bike Week

The wife and I have found our share of reasonably priced RV parks
I understand you get what you pay for in the camping world, but the cost of camping in a civilised RV park during Bike Week in Daytona is outrageous.
I'm not going to pick on any one park, but 5 nights costing north $600 is crazy.
Condos are priced in that range and yes I get to move my condo wher I want it but I'm not even in the Beach this year that would be $800
Factor in my monthly costs and it's no bargain it just is an option
Yes I have everything I need and yes I'm comfortable and yes I have my privacy but these prices are borderline extortion
Thank you for letting me vent
Any reviews or options any of you find that you want to pass along I'm all ears

Dutch, try Orange City RV Resort on E. Graves Ave. close to the track (20 minutes) and you can take a nearby back road, it takes you to 92 avoiding the highway and traffic. The park has a mix of park models and everything else. We always stay there the night before the Daytona 500 and it was $47 per night. Not sure what they charge for bike week, but just about every site there has an easy-up and at least one bike on the site.

I guess the RV park owners know, as the rest of us do, that all bikers are rich!!

It's a well known and widely used practice. Even the small motels around Road America in Wisconsin price gouge on race weekends. Even if they aren't full!

That's why I stay around 30 min from the bike venue. Not as expensive and I get riding time going up to the venue for the day. Not all bikers are rich.

Ocean city bikefest I stay at Pokomoke state park 30 min south. That allows me to hit Delmarva and OC easily.

At Americaide in Lake George NY. I stay at Saratoga springs NY. We hotel it there because the campgrounds are outrageous for that weekend.

Supply and demand. Capitalism at work.

There is no such thing as price gouging.

You are from Lake Wylie? My daughter just moved from there to York, out in the 'country' sort of.

You want outrageous? The cost of houses and condos in your area is extortion! My goodness. I could buy a mansion on 10 acres here for what you guys get for one small condo. Not even any rent places, she looked all over while moving.

I guess it's all relative..............

If the campground is near full don't see any lower prices ..... coming any time soon......

The in demand locations any going up in price annually...... We could go to MB a few years ago in season for $60 a night this year it is going to be $84 a night, next year probably $90, but they are already full for most of the summer so we as campers are paying it.

If you think that is high ~~ snowbirds in SOUTH FL can fill you in. The monthly rates are much less than weekly (if you can find a site for a week) and expect $1200 minimum for a month in a field. About $2500 for a tight FHU. Want fancy ~~ figure close to $3K. Go inland and prices drop quite a bit but nothing is there. Stay in the panhandle and it is cheaper and cold.

There are 2 about 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach that are not as bad yet as few look in NC ~ Brunswick Beaches (Good Sam) and Wishing Well in Ocean Isle Beach.

Sounds like the motel/hotel prices anywhere in the vicinity of Bristol TN for the NASCAR races. And they wonder why attendance has fallen.

Everything you read says there are more and more of us RV'ing. I haven't seen a lot of new campgrounds opening up ; so the "market" favors the seller right now! Simple free market economics! It can only be worse at the places we all want to visit!

If you're not camping at bike week for the reason of being at bike week then why go at all. I quit going there a few years ago because of the "crotch rocket" crowd. I can't understand why a regular RV'er would want to put up with that stuff.

But, if you're there for bike week then the best camping deals are at the Daytona Speedway. Several packages for five to ten days ranging from $200-$400, including tickets for two to all the race events. The most expensive package is $620 in the gated premium area. Deduct the cost of the included tickets the camping is less than $50 per night.

Go to some of the big National car shows, same thing. Jacked up motel prices. One I stopped going to 10 years ago, Holiday Inn over $125 a night with a 4 night min. One I go to and camp, $35 a night ,motels $600 for 3 nights!

Guess that depends on where you go and how many months . a 5 or 6 month stay can get you a nice lot for 595+ele very close tpo the beaches . one month at peak season and yes you can see up to 1200 . most it's seems are right at 1000. if you head to the keys expect 1800. been doing the southwest florida thing for a couple winters . inland you can get rates at about 350 / infact i know of a place south of Orlando for 350 a month nice place on bass lake and not far from daytona . of the many many parks i've checked out i've never come across a 2500 to 3000 a month place . and yes the panhandle is nice a few stops for monthly that are in the 350 range but once march rolls around they go up also . close to Panacea now for the month of march and i'm paying 355. the temps are perfect this time of yr about 70 to 78 day and 60's night

This season our regular was 2340 monthly unless a 3 month stay. 9 months was the least. Going up for next season. It depends on a lot of things. South close to the coast is expensive, especially if a nice park close to a decent city. Summer those places are cheap ~~ their prime season.
Above Tampa the opposite, summer they raise rates as it is too hot south. Many of those $1000 monthly sites would be OK for a week or two but not where I'd send 2 months or more. The nice $1200 - $1500 are booked solid, many require a 3 or 4 month stay. My 5er has wheels and long stays defeat the purpose, I'd buy a condo again instead of staying in one place.

I agree with CZNEDY and RMAC. We stay in Rapid City during Sturgis. Not much cheaper, but the ride time is fun.
