A check engine light can be as simple as a loose gas cap to something as major as a ECM ( electronic control module) problem. A lot of repair shops are offering a free scan now. You should get it scanned to tell you the exact problem. The easiest is check your gas cap that it's on and tight, if not and you tighten it light will go out after three cycles of starting.
