A/C cover

While driving around, I notice some people had A/C cover on for the winter
Is that necessary? Should I cover my A/C for winter?
Also, I didn't know what to use but I read that the fridge and hot water tank vents should be covered to prevent spiders to enter so I used plastic (just cut freezer bags) and taped around the vent. Is there a product out there to do this?

I guess a ac cover would be nice if it sits outside.

someone posted the other day about opening the hw heater door and fridge access panel and putting a garbage bag behind them then shutting it . sounds like a good idea.

If you don't have one it might be best. Mice like to get in and chew on wires. Plus it will keep other bugs out too if they decide to nest.
