A little survey on travel?

How many miles and hours do you travel a day on longer 1000 + mile trips? I'm trying to plan a trip and want it to be relaxing. Thanks

Around 350 to 400 miles max. I try to stay around the 350 mile mark but sometimes campgrounds are further away. This leaves plenty of time for set up and relaxing after driving all day. I do not un-hock the 5er from the truck if we are leaving the next day I also will use pull through sites.

Trip to florida was 1100 miles and we did it in 2 days. It was exhausting. Going to break it up into 3 days next time and 2 nights.

When we are not in a real hurry we have done as little as 200 miles. 500 starts to get a little long but the DW can drive too so that breaks it up and makes it easier. That said, I have been known to drive quite a bit longer when alone. Now that the DW is closing in on retirement, time constraints will be a thing of the past. That is with the exception of having to be back home monthly so get meds refilled.

solved our med problem when traveling by switching to WalMart Pharmacy, they are every where, you go to any one and they call up your account on their computer system and fill your prescriptions anywhere you are,.....same thing when needing cash, you don't need a bank, with a debit card can get up to $100 right at the WM checkout,......both of these, makes out of town traveling a little more comfortable...........happy trailering............

We have gone 8-10 hours before with the Hybrid TT. The 5'er hasn't been on a trip yet but in a little over a month will be taking a 11hr trip to Knoxville with it. That will be a 1 day drive. When we head out west later this year we will not be in any hurry so I am sure we will shorten the hours on the road. On a side note... I did drive straight back from FL to NY a few years back(Long story there)...not towing...DW did not drive once and just gave me direction when she wasn't sleeping......and I can say I do not think I would try that again...

A Lot depends on the terrain.....on cross county trips, once out of the Rockies, 500 a day is easy

I drive alone now and have to learn to take my time. Most of my children etc. live out west in AZ and UT. It's a long haul and I have been known to drive from 0700 to 2300/day. I am not doing that any more. No need and doing it alone sucks!!

Before retirement I would drive 500+ miles a day. After retirement 350 is my max. It took a few months of retirement to convince myself to do a better job of planning my trips and not to exceed my 350 mile limit.

We go until we get tired. I can drive and take over when my husband get tired or just needs a break. Plus it is nice that he gets to enjoy the scenery. I scheduled 2 days to get back from Big Bend even though we could of done it in one day. One long day. I think he really liked that. We were able to pull over at picnic area and stay the night for free. In Texas you can use the picnic areas for overnight parking. I can never understand the thought process at some rest stops that state no overnight parking. I know it is to keep people from camping out there for an extended period of time, but would they really rather have a tired driver on the road?

We try to stick with the 350-400 mile limits others mentioned. Take our time, stay safe and get set up before dark. Have done a couple of 700 mile days and they were real killers!

We travel 3-4 hrs every 4 - 7 days. Started July 1st. 2014

We've been to Tampa area twice. Did a 550+ mile day on the way home last year, home being Whiting, NJ. Not fun, never again! Now it's 300-350, maybe less. That and we like to 'lay over' a day in St. Augustine, Fl and Snow Hill, Md.
Life is good.

When we went out west to the Rockies from Michigan I drove 12-13 hour days. Was in Loveland Colorado on the 2nd night, camp setup drinking a beverage watching the sunset. It was long days but I enjoy driving. I put 5000 miles on that trip in 14 days and was only moving camp and towing 6 of those days. I can easily drive 8 hour days. I mostly go by hours driven and not miles.

We aim for 300 miles, sometimes less, sometimes more. This allows time to find the campground (some are hidden on back roads), get set up, and relax a bit.

If it is 4 lane 90% of trip 500 miles max. Less than that, split into 2 days.

I guess by now, you see the prime number is 350 and I add my experiences alone with my fellow travelers.
When we go to Disney World (Orlando, FL) approx. 1,200 miles, 3 nights and 3 1/2 days traveling. I useta-could drive 500 mile days but not anymore, too tiring. So I agree, 300 to 350. Need to be set up by happy hour.

I read a good rule of thumb. Stop at "300 miles or 3PM" whichever comes first. That way you can find a campsite and set up in day light, prepare dinner and get to bed early for the next day's adventure. Since retiring and slowing down to tow we sometimes only go only 250 miles in a day. Remember, it's the journey not the destination that one should strive to enjoy.

I drove truck 43yrs. Retired 2yrs. I no longer rush. Plan on 50mph. Av. At most for 5 to 6hrs. Leave after rush hr. 9am. In park before evening rush hr. At3:30 pm.
