Anti theft

What would be a suggested method of securing the 5er against theft? Is there a hitch pin lock?

Just make sure you take it off before you back the truck up and can't figure out why it won't hitch... (whistles guiltily).

Can you get a big padlock that will fit into groove on hitch?

Likely- as long as it doesn't slip off the bottom, it should be fine. You could probably run a chain through the wheels and over the axles, too.

The purpose-made 5th wheel locks are pretty cheap, though.

Triguy, I used one just like that one made by Master lock and bent it. Now I have a 5er but I would verify the load rating on that hitch pin lock before buying it. Once it is bent it was somewhat hard to get out.......live and learn.

Haha - you caught me. I saw that the OP had a TT so posted about a TTs hitch lock. Deleted the post when I figured my mistake but you must of seen the pic.

Just so this makes sense for everyone else, here's what I had posted...

DeadBolt King Pin Lock - C T Johnson Enterprises Inc KPL - Hitch Locks - Camping World

I bought this lock from Camping world and it works really good easy to take on and off and has a coating on it that makes wiping the grease off with a paper towel easy. It is a similar design to the receiver pin. but yeah don't loose the key or your in trouble.....another easy theft deterrent is if you have a battery cut off switch and power front jacks you can cut the 12V power and the jacks wont work. Down side is that your battery will not charge if you have it connected to shore power and the switch off.

Just lock the hitch to it and leave it hang.

If someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it one way or the other regardless of what you do.

We have a "guard cat". If Cooper doesn't stop 'em, my Kimber will!

There are a variety of kingpin locks available. This is what I use.
