Im in the auto collision & refinishing industry, and do fiberglass work on the side. Acetone is to gelcoat what lacquer thinner is to some paints.

But its yours to do with as you see fit. But I would strongly recommend not using it to any of my customers or friends.

Another vote for WD-40. Works great for me, even on residue from
commercial grade velcro with no adverse affects.

Remove sticky adhesive

Goo Gone is a good solution, but I try either Denatured Alcohol or VM&P Naptha. both available at Wal-Mart, and any paint store. I prefer the VM&P Naptha, it dries quick and doesn't leave a residue.

I de-badge my truck and dealer stickers off my camper last summer.
Used a blow-dyer, wd40 and fishing line for the emblems on the truck.
Quick, easy and safe to the finish.

3M in the spray can. Use it for all sorts of things.

We covered this back in early fall in this thread:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...per-68129.html

In that thread, it was determined that even though FR used Acetone on my rig at the rally, in general it shouldn't be used for sticker removal.

I have used that orange waterless hand cleaner (NOT the pumice type) to remove sticker residue, magic marker, and other problems. I consider it pretty safe to use on most surfaces, you can leave it on overnight. Sometimes it works like magic, other times not so much.

Goo gone is extremely good. But you have to remove the plastic layer of the sticker so it can interact with the glue.

Adhesive remover

lots of things will remove adhesive but if you want to be safe about what's underneath use:

3M adhesive remover or Boatlife adhesive remover from fiberglass/gelcoat, follow up with a good uv wax

Non-ammonia or non-alcohol containing removers From plexiglass - suggest dry paper towels or cotton on a warm day., soap and water. Otherwise you are laying the foundation for crazing

Goof off for metal or baked n coatings

Acetone for glass or bare metal, acetone is a god surface prep for fiberglass or in other words it softens and prepares the underlying gelcoat

What do you use to remove decals from the interior? Not sure if it is paper coated pressboard or what. Afraid to get to aggressive.
