Anybody notice getting a 15lb LP bottle when swapping?

My father and sister usually swap out their 20lb LP bottles for full ones instead of getting them refilled. Recently they realized they no longer have 20lb bottles but 15lb.
Something to watch for.

This has been discussed here several times. If you look carefully on the tank cage, you will notice that most of them have a notice posted in small print about the quantity of propane in the tanks.
You are paying more than you think for the convenience of a swap vs a fill.

That's been the norm for quite a few years now, I work for a large propane company and recall there being a lot of upset customers when that changed. You are best off finding a place that will fill tanks rather than exchange, I have one locally that will still add 20# to the TW and fill by weight.

I have been blocked from every Facebook page by every company that has advertised tank swaps on my Facebook page. Every company has claimed they swap out your empty tank for a “full” tank. Whenever one of the ads shows up, I post the truth about what their “full” tank really is after I first rate their company and post my review. They can delete my posts, but they can’t change or manipulate any of the reviews posted by anybody.

When the companies have decided to debate my posts, they always talk about the “industry standard” of putting just 14# to 15# into a 20# tank and calling it “full”. Some have directed me to their fine print, which is always buried and not obvious to those not looking for it, which discloses this dirty truth. Some have tried to get away with the “only fill to 80%” of tank size argument, which is a total lie. A 20# tank is sized such that it will hold 20# of propane — not 80% of 20#. The debates don’t continue long after that, and my posts are deleted and I am blocked. However, my detailed and informative reviews remain until they start a new Facebook page.

Well the search function on the site failed me, I couldn't find anything.
Rockfordroo, excellent link, thank you.

I'll have to see if there is a refill place around them.

Thank you for the information.

Try your Local TSC store. Their web site MARYVILLE # 388 shows Propane Refill, By the Gallon SKU #3810454 $2.99 (A "full" 20 lb cylinder should have 4.7 gallons of propane in it). TSC sells propane by the gallon so if you fill a half full tank you are only paying for what they pumped and not a flat refill price like most places.
$2.99 * 4.7 = $14.05 for a full fill should be less than than a Typical exchange price that is a short fill.

Blu Rino gas

I only use the 15# folks when I have a tank that needs recertification and then I exchange to get a fresh inspection and refill afterwards at the local propane gas supply yard.

As mentioned, this isn't new and it's been discussed quite a bit. I have refill centers around me, but it's always a major pain. I'm about 50-50 between refilling my tanks and taking the screw job on a pre-filled swap.

Around here, the cost to refill a tank is around $19, which is very similar to the price of a swap. Thus, the casual shopper thinks there's no benefit to the inconvenience of filling tanks. Hey, for the same price, I can just swap my tank! People who think they get value for free are cute. I'm sure most never realize they're not getting a full tank.

Thanks, I already have a place that refills my tanks, it was my father and sister who swap their tanks. They are in N. Ga. so I need to find them a place to get them refilled.
