Put them on a Dusk to Dawn controller in addition to the remote and they will come on and shut off automatically.

My 5er has the factory LED lights on the side under the awning attachment but they're just white and single brightness. I camp for astronomy where dim red light is the only kind that is not condemned so I bought a 16-color, dimming string (can get them in the 40-50 dollar range off eBay or Amazon) and stuck them on the awning tube. The good part of that is that when the awning is retracted, the strip is protected and pressed firmly to the tube so I should never have any problem with the adhesive.

The controller is inside the D.S. flood where its wired into its power (and a switch on the side of the base turns off the flood but leaves the controller powered as long as the inside switch is on) and the IR sensor also sticks out just a bit from a hole on the bottom. Currently the cable runs along the inside of the arms (have to unplug one end to retract the awning) and hangs down the side where I can tuck it into the arm for travel. I just have to pop off the lens and fish out the connector, connect both ends and I'm good to go.

Soon, I will change things so that the cable goes through the floodlight housing and is always connected and I only have to connect the one out at the roller end.

RF instead of IR controler and it can be mounted inside and you don't have to move out of easy-chair to do anything.

Also, if you search on Amazon, I was able to finn ready made extention cables for the leds. Alot easier to run wires up awning posts (inside where factory wiging is if you have an electrical awning. I also used a tract made for the lights to secure them to the under side of awning tract on trailer. I have them in both places, and yes, still have to unplug the outer set. suggest you also get some extra 4 pin (male to male) connectors as there small and easy to lose and if you forget to remove it for traveling, it will have a new home....just not yours.
