That is a really cool set up, I too have a short box and my nose cone comes to within an inch of the cab, I just dont think that I have enough clearance. Combing Craigslist for a Yakima roof rack. Is that home made?

Check out Thule roof rack. Son and I really like ours.

I think you can add more bikes if needed.

Wish I could drive my truck into the garage with the bikes in place. I don't even have my bikes on the roof.....I have them suspended over the bed, and I still can't get into the garage.

When the bikes go on the truck, the garage door opener gets hidden so I won't forget.

I have used a hitch mount rack on a lite 5th wheel with no issues. You have to make sure the bumper is connected directly to the frame. The 4" bumper on mine is the same as on heavier models. Several people also tow boats/other trailers from these hitches. If not sure go with a ladder mount bike rack.

I found a nice Yakima base rack on CL for 100.00 with locks. Found Q clips for my truck for 24.00 for two pairs, then went to Rack N Road in Seattle and found two used bike racks for 49.00 each. I consider my self thrifty, not cheap......well, maybe i am cheap.....lol Got it all set up today with the bikes on there, seems very sturdy.
