Bike rack for ladder on 5th wheel.

Wondering what members opinions are on carrying one bike on ladder of 5th wheel? Is any one currently carrying them this way and if so, any negatives that you have experienced while doing so. Thanks in advanced for your responses.

I'm not doing it, so take this post with a grain of salt- but the weight and bounce of the bike concerns me with the ladder. My fear would be that it jiggles around enough to cause issues with the ladder.

That said, I have friends who carry a kids bike or two on one and hasn't had issues.

I wouldn't do it either. My kids bikes fit in my bed up by the cab because I have an 8ft bed and the bikes aren't too big yet. My wife an I on the other hand got foldable bike that fit in our storage compartment.

Thanks for your replies. I believe I will play it safe and try a different way of transporting them.

FWIW I have seen several new trailers for sale with racks on the rear. I will try to find a couple pics.

IMHO, you are being wise to not hang anything that could shake or vibrate on the ladder.

I had my bike rack mounted to the pin box up front. After moving back to a TT I mounted a rack to the rear bumper. The only thing I would ever put on my ladder is a beach chair on hooks and tied securely and I don't like doing that either.

At the International Rally last year, when the Rockwood techs finished working on a unit, they gave the owner a packet that contained some literature about Rockwoods, a "customer satisfaction" survey, and a few other advertising pieces....among them was one for a ladder-mounted bike rack.

I've transported a bike on a ladder-mounted rack once, with no problems, but the more I read, the less I like the idea of doing it. I just found it interesting that that piece of literature was in the Rockwood packet.

If it helps, I absolutely love my pin box bike rack. It's fantastic!
