Blue back lit light switches

The blue back lit light switches are very bright and drain on the battery. Anyone know how to shut them off??

Battery fully charged at bedtime and dead by morning.

Are you running your refrigerator on 12 VDC? That's the most common battery killer.

Blue led lights draw very little juice.

Big users are, cpaps, heater, fridge, any inverter item.

Keep looking.

A voltmeter on your battery is a good plan. Fancy battery monitors are good.

Not true.
Only popup and truck campers have 3-way fridges that have a 12v option.
2-way fridges only use 12v DC to ignite the propane side. They use very little battery power.

The biggest battery killer is the furnace.

You can get little dot stickers that are varying darkness to cover over clock, television, switches and components that emit led lights to brightly into a dark room. You can still see there is a power light, but it really cuts that annoying light. The LED lights don't consume that much power when being used. If you have an led that stays on 24/7 for a couple months it could draw the battery down. You can replace an LED lit switch for a plain switch, but it defeats the purpose of the lit switch that it's on. Or use one of the stick on dots that is really dark or solid. I used LightDims Variety Pack Light Dimming Sheets. has precut dots as well as custom pieces to cut. This is a non adhesive window cling stuff so no mess, can be easily removed, but won't just fall off.

I agree that these little leds don't use much power however they are annoying at night. In our 19FD E-pro the control panel faces the bed. The lights are annoying so we shut them off. Problem solved.

Do you have just one battery? How old is it? Battery may have issues. Take it out and have it load tested to determine if listed amp hours match the test results.

Is the radio or TV or other device on? Just the little bit of electric for fridge ignition isn't enough, nor are led lights. Do you have your phones plugged in to usb chargers, laptops pulling USB or 12V power, was the furnace fan run? Testing the current draw tells you how much is going out, then you have to start turning off things till you find the culprit.

The back lit switches are lighted with an LED. Maximum current drain is in the neighborhood of under 0.020 amps, pretty much negligible for practical purposes. The only way to conveniently turn them off would be to pull the fuses for the circuits the switches operate.

Were the RV mine and I wanted to decrease brightness, I would insert additional resistance in the lead the goes directly to the LED in question. Generally 800 to 1000 ohms will dim it a bit, while still keeping the light functional. The only practical way to dim LEDs that I know of is to use a pulse width modulated dimmer. These are available cheaply on eBay and Amazon, but I believe it will entail far more technical work than most RVers want to endure.

Most lighted switches have three wires. Pop the switch out and remove one of the end (usually) wires and no more lights keeping y’all awake.

What 12v items are you using that are drawing that much current?

Some residential refrigerators utilize an inverter (powered by 12v) to make the 120v current necessary to keep them running. They consume a good deal of current.

Some refrigerators are 12v compressor type such as the EverChill models. They too use a good bit of 12v current.

Some LP refrigerators have heating elements in the door(s) to keep condensation off. They can use a good bit of 12v current.

The furnace is another 12v power hog.

Propane/CO detectors use some too as well as radios or sound bars.

Ceiling vent fans can consume additional 12v especially when on high.

Led lights and lighted switches use little current.

What size battery do you have and what condition is it in? What are you using to recharge it?

This will solve any LED or indicator display light instantly and can be removed just as easy.

The blue glow of those light switches can cause insomnia as blue light during sleep has been proven to be the worst for disrupting your natural circadian clock. I could not sleep in my camper due to that alien ship glow overhead. I wanted to disable the blue switch glow, but not kill the on/off function of the fixture. So, I pulled out the fixture from the ceiling (pops out with a small pry), opened the fixture up exposing the small circuit board inside...located the tiny blue LED behind the translucent switch...then with a small set of diagonal cutting pliers I snipped one side of the LED connection to the circuit board. Worked like a charm. Blue light glow gone...switch and white light still fully functional....sleep like a baby again.

The should have 3 wires on the back. Power, ground and switch leg. Pull the ground and the led should no longer illuminate but the switch will still operate properly. Just do not leave the switch on and kill you battery as you will no longer have the led indicating the switch is on.

Don’t forget to add the power amp switch for the tv antenna to the list. Is your power jack covered and the light on? Outside storage bin light on? Just saying.........

If the OP has a Dometic 2652 fridge or similar, his door heater is pulling 0.5 amps, in addition to the furnace fan already discussed. Not a battery killer by itself, but if your battery is already in poor shape, it doesn't help.
