Bugs!

Well,I am brand new to the forum and to RVing! We just go a shamrock 21ss and took it out this past weekend! We had a wonderful time except for the flies and mosquitoes! They just about toted us away! I had a huge fan blowing on us and the bugs just laughed a continued to munch! What are the best ways to get rid of the bugs??? We live and camp in the southeast, so bugs are always going to be an issue!

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new camper!!! We use OFF Yard and Deck spray. It works fairly well. You have to spray it before you intend to be outside and when there is not much breeze blowing.
Good luck!

All sorts of options - first, don't go to buggy campgrounds (some are worse than others) if at all possible.

there are electric bug zappers that claim to clear 1/2 acre area (if left on 24/7). We got one for this year and can't yet evaluate it - ours is not (so far) a buggy campground. A few flys is about all.

We leave our camper door open for the dog to come in and out so bugs of any kind will be an issue for us, and my wife is their favorite meal.

We have Off (have tried various sprays of theirs and they all work) and i'll do my arms, across the back of my shoulders and calves and the top of my head and be bug free. I try no to spray the deep woods off on the kids so I'll put in their clothing or the chairs.

I made the mistake earlier this year at a baseball game of grabbing an aerosol spray, removed my glasses and proceeded to cover my arms, neck, face and legs with what I though was sunscreen and did my face last...it didnt' smell right so I put my glasses back on - deep woods off, not sunscreen! My lips were numb and tingly for an hour afterwards.

But not a single bug bothered me.

Thanks tmmar! I will try that. I have small children and anything that could clear an area will be great!

Thanks to you too prof_fate! Glad the bugs stayed away and hope you didn't get too burned at the game!!! Let me know how the bug zapper works!

Go to your local Wal mart, and get a "Thermacell" mosquito repeller. It uses small gas bottles that last 12 hours, and that goes with 3 pads that last 4 hours each. I got refills and xtra gas on e bay much cheaper. These things work great! You won't regret it. We have a son that plays baseball year round, and we use these things at the ball games here in north Florida and- NO bugs. 29.95 for the initial purcase of the machine. Randy
