Campfire in a Can Evaluation
Up Front: $299.00 for a freak'n propane waster?
In this case, you get what you pay for. I have friends who bought the Little Red (and Big) Campfire for @ $89.00 - nice ..um...toy. Good ambiance for the camp without the smoke and tending of a real wood fire but when it gets cold and we want WARM it falls flat.
So I was tempted by some folks I met who had forked over the big bucks for a Campfire in A Can
( Amazon.com: Campfire In A Can Portable Propane Outdoor Fire Pit Patio Heater: Sports & Outdoors)
$300 - REALLY :roll eyes: for what?
Well, you get a really well engineered product in a really NICE container with even better accessories (grill, lava glass for reflective heat, and a nice storage cover ($22 bag is optional and you know what? DW sews if you get my hint )
So how HOT it is well, to quote a famous movie (Hint and points for naming it Basically, it's hotter than a snake's ass in a wagon rut!
When you turn this sucker up to HIGH prepare to roast! It Will warm up the troops for sure! Good News Department: Turn it down to ambiance level and it is still warm and looks cool too!
Happy Camping in areas that forbid wood fires FROGs!

Cool! This is very timely- I was just looking at Bluewater Key in Florida and they don't allow any fires that let off embers. They do allows LP fires, though.

For 300 bucks there would be no marshmallow drippings anywhere close to it.

I purchased a Camp-Fire-In-A-Can a couple of years ago. I did a lot of research on the different types and brands. You get what you pay for. The product has an excellent web site Campfire In A Can - Portable Propane Fire Pit for Backyard & Camping .
The reasons I purchased this product was to eliminate weight carrying wood, some campgrounds ban open fires in the dry season, some ban wood brought into the campground due to tree disease. I carry a 20 lb. tank that fuels the fire and my Weber Q grill. I can place the fire where I want it. Many people ask questions about my fire. Most questions come the next day; how I kept a long-large-steady fire. They are very surprised when I show them.
Where did I get the idea to purchase this item, someone else had one! Added bonus; "no" smoke in the RV and "no" embers burning my chairs, awning, patio mat, clothes, etc...AND adjustable flame. I highly recommend this product.

Glad you like yours. We bought a real nice propane fire pit from CampChef thinking to use it when we have fire restrictions. It just didn't do a lot for us. Plus, having worked in HVAC and with gas fired heating and process equipment, the smell of it running rich kind drove me nuts. For me there was no real easy fix as we live at 6800 feet and camp in areas from a couple hundred feet to some a bit higher than home. So it had a lot of miles on it and little use.

Is there much/any smell of propane when using these?

Don't have the Campfire In A Can, we have the Little Red Portable Campfire and get no propane odor.

I got one of these coming for my Christmas present. I saw a couple with it when we camped this summer. I really wanted the ambiance of a fire, but it was way too hot to be near one. I saw the glow from this thing and wandered over to see what up. Its surprisingly lifelike and puts out zero heat (smores are out of the quesiton, alas...)
