Campfire Starter Gadget

Read about this device, battery operated, 5.6 ounces & 9.2" in length...acts like a blow dryer to help start campfires or charcoal flame...neat.

here's my trick for firestarters:

save your cardboard type egg cartons
save your dryer lint
save the leftover wax in jar candles

stuff the lint into the egg cups
pour the melted wax over the lint

let it cool and tear the cups apart

I can assure you that *one* of these will get a great fire going

I prefer these over the gas line that we have coming into our home fireplace to get the fire going and even the buckets full of pine tap root fat wood that I harvested years ago.

Just set an edge of the cup on fire and place it under the logs....

AND its ultimate recycling!

Im Lazy and like to play with fire (I sell Combustion Equipment for Refinarys for a living) so i bought a weed burner only to find out it burns through more propane than a jet engine and sounds like one too. I then heard about a product called the Ja Ja fire starter. It works well and really is effiecent on the gas. Still on the same tank as i started the year with.

I'm a little lazy and just keep a case of small fire starter logs in my camper. About $25 for a case of 48 of them at WM and I can usually find them on sale somewhere.

a piece of fire starter log does it for me. usually about a quarter piece does it. have also used drier lint as well.

We have a battery powered pump for inflating air mattresses and it works well as a fire starter in a pinch. Just don't leave it too close to the fire, that plastic tends to melt.

If you can fine a old pine stump you could dig it up and chop it up for kindling. This starts a fire GREAT. Works as well as the fire sticks ans a lot cheaper.

I just let our camping buddy Randy start our fires. He's free and I don't have to worry about doing the fire thing.

We use inexpensive fire starters made by a local candle shop. They make them from their scented waxes and sawdust in wax paper cups. They work fantastic and the scent in the trailer is a nice bonus.

Dryer lint and petroleum jelly is quicker than the egg carton deal. Just take the lint and put it in a zip lock bag and mix in a little of the jelly. The lint catches fire quickly and the jelly allows it to burn slower to lite the fire.

I will try this, but I have one concern. We have three dogs and four cats (every one a rescue, every one a story).
The dryer lint can have a lot of hair during shedding season. Can the candle wax actually cover the burning hair odor?

Absolutely. We have two dogs, both with medium length hair. Yes, the lint I collect has dog hair in it at times.

I have yet to smell burning hair while using this fire starter.

The amount of lint used for each egg cup is probably half the size of a golf ball before it's stuffed down into the egg cup. Unless you have big foot living with you, there's not a lot of hair in that much lint.

I intentionally do not totally cover the entire top surface of the lint with wax, as the lint acts as a wick to get the wax started, along with the ragged edges of the cardboard from tearing the egg cup sections apart. Even with this consideration, I've never smelled hair burning.

As I stated, I prefer this over the pine tap root (6') that I personally chopped into small sticks with a hatchet....weeks of work, resulting in buckets of fire starter. Fat wood sap can build up in the chimney.

We have a similar but slightly different blower that we've had for about seven or eight years. Love it! It's like a battery-operated bellows. when the fire goes down, you can blow new life into it in seconds just by directing a stream of air onto the embers. Works great!

All these suggestions are cool but I'm sort of fond of the WHOOSH you get when throwing a match on kindling and logs drenched in Coleman fuel. Never was a very good Boy Scout. ha!

However, I normally use the fire starter bricks.
