Campgrounds in north al
Just the two of us and 3-small dogs. Wondering where everyone enjoys camping in north central Alabama. We are searching for places for weekend camping. We are in cullman county. Being in our late 50's and early 60's makes amusement parks a thing of the past. More into peace and quiet with some laid back atctivities-- hiking museums parks etc

I don't know if Huntsville qualifies as north central Alabama but it's literally the only place I have camped in in AL. I have family there and visit every 2 years or so.
Monte Sano State Park is beautiful.

Stayed in Logan's landing out of Pell City. It was a pretty good park.

Desoto State Park is nice. We stayed there for four nights last year. It's quiet too.

If you're willing to travel just a tiny bit farther, some great places exist in southern Tennessee. Try David Crockett state park (near Lawrenceburg) or Tims Ford Lake SP (near Winchester). Around Wheeler, Guntersville, and Pickwick Lakes in Alabama are some good campgrounds too. Plenty of opportunities.

The first Frog Rally last year was at Mill Creek Park, Elkmont, AL so it would be a good possibility. You may want to do a search for "Alabama frog" to check on their next rally. I would think campgrounds around Guntersville would be great for relaxing or a couple campgrounds around Ft Payne.

You have gotten some good location from the previous posts. We live in the Huntsville area and can recommend some additional sites.
Point Mallard, Decatur. good site, full hook up and have a water park close by.
The Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville also has a campground, full hooks up and you can walk to the Space & Rocket Center.
Noccalula Falls, Gadsden. Nice sites, full hook up. It's located next to the falls. There is a bridge over the falls, you can walk to the park, has a train that runs around the park.
River Country, Gadsden. Nice sites, full hook ups. Close to downtown.
Lake Guntersville State Park, Guntersville, Nice Site, Most of the park destroyed by a tornado several years ago. Park has been rebuilt and is real nice.
Little Mountain. Langston, AL (Guntersville). Nice site, full hookups, also has an indoor pool. Built as a members only park, has been opened to the public for a number of years.
Have fun and be safe in all your travels

Thanks for all the suggestions--Now to go check them out with the DH and hope we can pull off a few camps this summer. I just do not like to spend one night camping and 1 week clean up and prep. Hopefully when camping season starts it will be easier to keep the camper stocked for quick trips and easy clean up.

We did not like River Country RV Park in Gadsden. A group of us all camped there about 3 years ago and we all had one probem in common, the sewer hookup for the site in front of us was literally under our awning mat. with our awning open, there was about 2 feet between the awning and the camper in front of us. Beautiful views, BUT not from the campsite.

River Country
Your comment about River Country is correct about some of the sites. I don't know who laid out his sites, but they weren't campers and didn't know about the space needed for a campsite. You have to pick your spots. If you are in a motor home there are sites along the river that you pull into, so you have a beautiful view of the river out your front window. There a lot of sites that give you plenty of room to extend your slideouts and awnings without any problems. You just have to pick you site.
