Campsite storage

Curious what everyone does with bikes etc. at campsite? Don't want to leave bikes in rain. Thought about a tent?

We park them close to the camper under the awning.

not many campgrounds will let you put up a tent along with a trailer. We keep out bikes under awning if possible. They get wet on the bike rack, so only so much can be done. How about a tarp?

Did the tent thing and it worked okay. Did the covering with a tarp locked to the tongue as well.

Georgia State Parks will, depending on the size of your RV vs the size of the site. I have never had a problem with theft, or even heard of a problem, while saying in a State Park. Keeping stuff dry is another issue.

What will get the rangers on you in a hurry is tying off ropes to trees. A simple "tarp over a rope" would be an ideal solution but the trees are off limits. With a 5th wheel the area under the pinbox is a natural storage spot for just about anything.

A $100 pop up tent may be the way to go, plus there is the "out of sight, out of mind" benefit for security of your stuff.

I'd go with a tarp. You can keep the firewood dry under it too.

We never had problems with theft (knock on wood) but I noticed my kids would leave their bikes under our TT, (which I thought is was a great idea....gotta let them figure it out for themselves at times).

Now that we have a MH I haven't really paid much attention what they do with them but then again it hasn't rained in California .....

We just lean them against a tree or the back of the trailer and cover them with a tarp. We use a couple of bungee cords to hold it in place if it is windy. They stay dry and don't clog up the awning area.

Under our HTT bunks. Same as when we had a popup. No locks - our bikes aren't theft-worthy.

I just slide them under the belly of the trailer as well. If I feel unsure of the area I am in, I will lock them to the aframe as long as the weather isn't going to be too bad or in the back of the truck with the bed cover over them if the weather is going to be nasty.

I bought a waterproof motorcycle cover at Walmart and it covers up to four bikes and I cable lock all the bikes to the fold down stairs.

we do the same except we do lock the bikes because they are theft-worthy.

but as an avid cyclist, rain is not going to ruin bikes, if they are maintained well. the only thing that might be affected on a short camping trip, would be the chain, which should have a water-resistant lube on it anyway.

for example, mountain bikes are made to ride on dirt/mud, which is a bigger worry for a bike than rain.
rain is a worry if you leave the bike out in it for months.

Really!?!?! Trees are off limits?

In Ontario Provincial Parks it is the norm to tie tarps to trees. Two 20' x 20' tarps and one can cover just about their entire site. That is how we keep dry.

The attached picture is not mine but is typical of what you will see up here especially if there is any chance of rain.

X2 in PA State Parks. We could win awards with our tarp "art".

I know I've read hammocks are not allowed at many places, though - same concern with harming the trees.

Nails, spikes, axes stuck in some trees.... I can see.....

If some 'ranger' told me not to tie a rope to a tree in the state where I live, I would get his name, badge number, supervisors name/number and complain up the line. 'Parking' on the grass in 'some' parks I can see.... if some ranger says no rope on a tree... he needs to find another job and stop drinking fluoridated water. One time I complained up the ladder about a 'ranger doug/ barny fife state campground want-a-be cop (the supervisor of the park in was in, to the Supervisors of the State Dept of Natural Resources and my local State Representative) I received a call back and follow up from each. The next time I stayed at that park, I asked about barny fife and was told that his attitude and customer skills was lacking and he did not want to improve himself and he no longer worked for the state.

We use our easy up to put them in at night, when its raining or if we leave the camper for a bit.
