Anyone have a good idea or trick to pump water at primitive camps sites to your rig?

Jerry can and a funnel at the pump. Funnel with flexible tube at the trailer. One holds the funnel while the other dumps the water. Pretty easy. You could try riggin a hose to the hand pump (if it is close enough to the RV) but my guess is that most of the hand pumps are not "force" pumps so that probably wouldn't work.

Any 12 volt water pump like the one already in your trailer. Get another one or make a line just for the purpose of power-filling your fresh water tank.

Sanitize the system immediately upon return to base.

but once the pump is primed (hand pump), will the 12v pump continue to pull?

We always carry a large plastic water can like the type used to water flowers. With the sprinkler off the spout it makes it very easy for the kids to keep the water tank filled. No batteries to fail and no maintenance required. We are very frugal with water when dry camping and find this works well.

I use a 5 gallon water bottle available from any home store or Discount Warehouse (like BJs or Sams Club) and a plastic hose.

I drilled a small hole in the white plastic, but not through the foam washer, to improve (speed up) water flow. I just put the hose in the fresh water fill port and turn the bottle upside down. I always look for the bottles with the built in handle for ease in carrying and emptying. I have a folding tote that I use to lug the bottle to the fill station and the camper. I have a 40 gallon tank and I always top off at 1/2 tank so it only takes about 4 trips to top off the tank.

The thread is titled hand pump. The question is how to get water from a primitive campsite to your rig. If all you have is a hand pump near by, you will have to put the water in something, then get it to your camper, then transfer it to the fresh water tank. How far away, the size of the container you want to pick up and pour in, ....... the list goes on. 5 gallons of water weighs 40 pounds, and that is about all you will be comfortable pouring in, probably. If you are looking to haul 30 gallons at a time, will need 6, 5 gallon jugs. I would use a drill pump, one that would go on a cordless drill, and pump the water in the tank, rather than lift and dump. If I was doing this often, as in every time out, and had to drive for water, I would get a blue tote, the kind used for sewage. I would get a brand new one, sanitize it, and use it for transporting fresh water to the camper, and then use a drill pump to put the water in the tank. If the hand pump were close, a couple of 5 gallon jugs would be fine for me.

My question to you is, where are you dumping? The gray and black tanks have a limit. I can get three showers and a dish washing or two, and my gray tank is full. We can make about 5 days on the black tank, (two adults). You can't jeep putting in without having to let something out.

I got a water thief and a bladder I ask when in town and never have been turned down to get60 gallons then have a extra 12volt water pump to feed the unit with.dump the black in the out house and the gray also BUT use the chem.in the tanks to reduce the smell or a f-jay or a pay to dump most camp grounds let You use there dump cheep also

There is almost always a camper with a water bladder in his pickup at most dry camping FAMCAMPs we stay at. If you want a quick fill when he has the bladder rigged, just ask. You will still have to drag the "Blue Boy" to the dump station yourself though.

I carry a 5 gallon water jug, and a 12 volt pony pump with hose attached to inlet and outlet. I installed a 12 volt plug by my water inlet of trailer. I just fill my water jug, put it on the ground near the water fill location and put one hose end into the jug and the other end into the filler and then plug in the pump and watch the water transfer. No more holding the water jug up and having someone hold a funnel so the water can be poured in.
