Cleaning the fifth wheel
This is our first fiver, which may explain what I'm gonna tell you.
Our well meaning, mis-informed son-in-law, greased the 5th wheel plate on the Rullrite Superglide. Today, after a LONG trip, I cleaned the ENTIRE hitch using a good degreaser. That includes the "tubes" and the capture plate. It looks like new! The mechanism moves smoothly - again. I was very surprised to find so much grit everywhere!
My hope is anyone who is also new to 5ers will inspect their hitch before the next trip. You may be surprised at what you find!

I am new to 5th travel and am going to use Teflon ring any thoughts on those. I have a Reese elite 18k hitch. There is a grease nipple for the king pin clamp.

Teflon rings are great but can't be used on the pull rite super glides. Less messy than the grease everywhere

I have the lube plate on my trailer, have from day one.
Been using WD-40 silicone spray lubricant on the parts that move, so far so good.

As much as we guys don't like to read an sort of instructions, I would get them out and follow the mfg instructions. I've heard good and bad about those Teflon rings.

I ask the service manager about them, I ask the guys at my work who use them on their trailers, every one of them said use one.
No they are not for use on every hitch but for those that can use them it is a lot cleaner.

I always inspect/clean/lube hitch before every hookup...sure fire way it'll always work flawlessly

I always use grease on my way tubes, tried slip plate but got sick and tired of spraying it on after every stop and with lots of turning it wears off and galling takes place. plus it gets all over my bed. when the camper is not hitched up the hitch is covered and never any worry about grime.

I do what the Pullrite manual says to do. WD-40 on tubes and everywhere else the manual states to apply a WD-40 like lubricant. Sometimes I wipe a small amount onto the plate, more for corrosion control that anything else. I always wipe it off if I apply it to the plate. Just leave a shinny coat. I try to apply WD-40 every time I hook up when I plan to travel a reasonable distance.

X3. Keep the plate clean and it will be easier to hook up. Love my Super Glide.

We were told to not use that Teflon plate on our Revolution hitch, said it wasn't needed and wasn't a good idea.

I have pulling a 5th for about 10 years and have had 3 different Hitch receivers in my trucks, Hitch Hiker and Curt. I have always used a Teflon plate but have been very diligent in making sure it is kept clean. As an extra precaution I have used a dry lubricant on the plate and my hitch receiver.
Any Petroleum based lubricant will attract dirt and reduce its effectiveness.
Be sure to only use non petroleum based lubes on your hitch mechanisms with exception of where you have grease nipples.

If the Revolution is activated, that is a true statement. However, if the Revolution is locked out or not activated, a Teflon ring should be used.
