Get a slide topper installed.
I spent 1 season without one and finally got one put on.
No more cleaning, no water dripping inside when retracting the slide and no more sticky slide seals from tree sap.

If you don't have slide topper carry a step ladder with you and sweep off with a broom or some use a leaf blower instead of the broom.

Your local RV dealer or any camper-supply place like Camping World will sell you one if you want DIY.

Ordered mine from shade pro.net
Very good customer service when I called and asked questions. Didn't want to screw up how I was measuring. Also saved several hundred dollars over anywhere else I felt comfortable ordering from.
Installed them myself and saved the cost of labor too but I will say you need extra hands. Especially if you have a longer slide like our main slide. The bunkhouse one was ok with just my wife and I but when it came to the super slide I wish we had a third person there just to help hold it.

Slide toppers are an option, but they can be noisy in areas where the wind blows seemingly all the time. Some have used straps over the topper ... others a soccer ball with a rope attached for retrieval ... just something else you have to do to set up and break camp. We just sweep the slide roofs if we think they need it prior to retracting them.

After a few times camping last year, and getting on the roof with a broom, I researched the awning toppers and decided to ask my dealer how much he's charge for one with installation. (I'm not comfortable drilling holes in my camper.)
It wasn't cheap (around $500) but I love the new awning.

I too have a slide topper but you don't and still need your question answered.

Assuming you have no roof access ladder:

Carry two sections of small rope and a wad of old towels. Tie the towels into a bundle (or wad) in the middle of two 20tf lengths of rope and throw it up onto the slide. Ropes should dangle over each end of the slide. Pull the towels back and forth until you don't see leaves and trash falling off the slide.

The ropes and towels are light, small and have other uses. And you already have them laying around.

If you have a roof access ladder just sweep it off with a broom.

And for those with toppers, wait a year or two and have a look at the slide roof under the topper. Man, where'd all that dust and dirt come from?

Break out the ropes and towels.

I bring alone a folding ladder like the ones sold at Camping World and use a broom to clean the tops of the slides right before bringing then in.

I'm on my 3rd RV with slide toppers. Never heard them make any noise in the wind.
A cheaper option is to get a cheap black and decker battery powered blower and attach (tape) an elbow from a vacuum hose to the end and blow leaves off from the ground. Seen it done.

That would reduce the amount of pooled water, too. And handy for policing the site as well.

Before a topper I just used the air compressor to blow off the slide. I did use a ladder just to see if there were any "gunk" that needed to be cleaned before pulling it in. If so, I used a wet mop. I've seen folks using the rope and towel method. It works really well even under a topper but takes two people.

If you watch on the highway, you'll occasionally see a stick showing above the slide that got pinched up when closing the slide. I helped a guy get a limb out at the fuel pump once by standing on the steel pole that protects the pump. No damage.

We sweep off the roof before retracting the slide out. Looking into adding a slide topper. Never tried the rope and towel method, might give that a shot.
