A Bounce Dryer sheet safety pinned to you hat or clothing works wonders. Just paperclip one to my kids clothing and they are bite free.

X3 on the Skin so Soft. We've been using it for about 15 years now because it works. Avon even makes one now that has a sunscreen in it... and that works too.

For individual use and great on kids is TerraShield an essential oil. My wife, friends and clients have sent over 300 bottles to our soldiers in Afghanistan.

Our daughter in New Jersey had a friend whose husband is there and was saying the Mosquitos and bus were horrific and nothing they used really worked. Her and my wife decided to send them to see how it worked because we know it works. The commanding officer suntan email saying it was fabulous and to send more if possible and they donate about 25 bottles a month. My daughter is in Cape May, NJ and swears by it for our grandson.

Be happy to have them send a link for anyone who wants to read about it.

Tried Thermocell for two weekends with no effect on mosquitoes. Perhaps they are immune already in southern Ontario

We use the lawn sprays that you hook up to the hose, citronella candles and the dry mosquito sprays.

Build a mosquito trap.
2-liter plastic bottle
Duct tape
Knife
Black paper
Microwave-safe bowl
3 cups water
1 packet yeast
Cooking thermometer
1 cup sugar
Microwave
Cooking spoon
Instructions
1 Place the bowl on a flat surface, and add 1 cup of water. Place the bowl in the microwave, and cook on high for two minutes. Remove from microwave.
2 Add 1 cup of sugar to the bowl, and stir with the cooking spoon to dissolve the sugar. Put the bowl in the microwave and cook for 60 seconds. Remove the bowl from the microwave.
3 Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the bowl, and stir the mixture until completely blended. This will make light-colored syrup.
4 Measure 6 inches down from the top of the 2-liter drink bottle, draw a line around the bottle at the 6-inch mark, and cut the bottle apart at the line. The top part that you cut off will resemble a funnel.
5 Pour the syrup into the bottom half of the drink bottle. Check the temperature of the syrup with the cooking thermometer. It needs to be between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If it isn't, wait until it cools before moving to the next step.
6 Open the packet of yeast and sprinkle it across the top of the syrup. Stir the yeast into the syrup.
7 Flip the top part of the bottle upside down, and put it into the bottom half of the bottle. It will fit snugly into the bottle. Duct tape the sides, so it won't come apart.
8 Put a piece of black paper around the bottle, and tape it in place.
9 Set the bottle in a place with mosquitoes, and let it stand. Mosquitoes will go in, but can't escape. Change the liquid in the bottle about once a month.

Pepsi bottles or those with a black or dark bottom will work and not need the black paper.

Crusader OMG I just had a flash back to my days of being Wing Air Field Security.

Combat mosquitos. swarms of them coming in at us like choppers ready to facilitate an extraction.

Had our troops eaten almost alive. Combats were scratched so much the top 2 layers of material were gone and it was then termed combat lingerie. if it got that thin we had to wear long underwear under it... in JULY!

my discovery

I found that the spray bottle I use for cleaning the windows works really well to chase away mosquitos and flies. I use about a tablespoon of ammonia in spray bottle filled with water. I don't carry it around with me but if I am sitting out relaxing or reading I just spray it around me and the pests leave. Not permanently but certainly long enough to give me a break from them. Pretty economical since at 1/2 gallon bottle cost me about $1.38 a Home Depot.

Don't ask me how many tablespoons in a 1/2 gallon bottle.
