Dish Satellite Question

I have a question for those of you who use the dish to go service. We have dish at home and the dish to go Wally in the camper. This is the first time that we have left family at home while we get away for a few days at the beach.

I called dish to get the local channels and asked if we were to change our location would it affect our at home channels as well. The customer service person said yes. That they would not be able to receive their local channels any longer until we changed it back to our home address.

Any of you other dish users ever run into this issue?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I don't have Dish, I have Direct. But that is correct for both of them. Local channels are done on a Spot Beam. If your plan is for Zip Code 12345, then that's what they send to all the smart cards in all receivers on your plan. Leave the particular spot beam cone footprint, and you no longer can receive those signals, as you are now within the cone of another set of local channels.

Thanks for the quick response.

That makes sense. Was hoping that it might be specific to the individual wally boxes.

Oh, well...

Thanks again.

it's not an issue unless, like yourselves, someone is still at home. I do want to watch programming from the major networks and just use the over the air antenna for the local channels at my location for that. All Wally and VIP211 boxes the same.

Thanks bubbles. The local channels don't come in so good where we are located right now. Just a couple of shopping channels.

Thanks though...

I utilize Dish at my residence and in the RV. Yes, DISH representative is correct. If you wanted to have local channels at your residence and on the road in the RV, you would have to create a separate account for each location. "Maybe" they would allow you to maintain the existing house account and then have a "pay as you go" separate account for the RV. Last I read, the latter RV account is approximately $40.00 a month. This is a month to month service account and can be terminated anytime. Obviously, you then lose the ability to gain the RV account as a extension to your existing household account at an additional $7.00 per month.

I receive my local channels where ever I go by taking a receiver from home using the Winegard X-2 portable dish. And I never contact Dish. Just plug and Play. also no extra charges

Dish Satellite Question

It is true, I spent over one hour recently with dish - got disconnected twice while being transferred nine times - got redirected back to the main menu twice, spoke to three supervisors then finally got to someone who knew what was going on. If you change the zip code you mess up your local programming at home and any recordings that you may have set up. You canít have two separate zip codes but you can have two separate accounts but you will pay for full programming on two accounts.
Wasnít what I was told when I purchased the set up but I will keep it and just not follow local programming on the road unless I can get cable or over the air.

Locals are Locals, so NO, your home is no longer going to receive them if it’s antenna is not in the same ‘beach’ spot beam as where your RV is. You can’t have if both ways : /

but, you could NOT change your RV locals, and just tune into those from your onboard antenna...
my VIP211k receiver w Dish also can bring my ‘antenna’ locals into the Dish receiver’s programming GUIDE, so that my receiver ‘sees’ them just the same
: )

Thanks

I appreciate everyone's responses to my OP. This is the first time the wife and I have left family at home since we purchased the Dish receiver for the MH. Just like everything with owning a camper, there is a learning curve. Again, much appreciation for everyone's input.
