Do you tow with step matts on?
We take them off, but is it ok to keep on when towing?
Thanks!

Ours stay on from the point they're installed to the point they wear out and need to be replaced. They fold up with the stairs and are out of the wind, no issues.

X2...Assuming they are the wrap around style and secured with the spring clips or zip ties

Ours are the wrap around with spring clips and always stay on. We did find after we installed them that the steps could partially open during left hand turns. This never happened before. DW claims it was my excessive speed. Regardless, we now bungee the steps closed.

I can tell you for certain that if I had to detach and stow the step carpets every time we hooked up, they would be in the trash

Same. Only time they come off is when they absolutely have to be replaced. And that's
usually about 2 months after the DW has said, "For the last time, replace these mats!!"

Mine are glued on. Picked up a couple of tile squares at Menards and cut them to fit. Used floor tile glue to attach. Been on for a year, still fully attached.
FWIW, on a drive home going past Lexington KY, the wind was strong enough that the steps partly deployed. I now use bungie cords to keep them stowed.

lol! That is exactly what I was thinking. I finally got "3" for all my steps and I'm like, these things are nasty. Why the heck and I touching these things and storing them? Thanks all. Keep em till they fall off, replace when needed.

Leave them on, never had an issue. Had them on our prior trailer for 8 years.
