Dog tears lower screen
Does anyone have any suggestion on what to use so my dog doesn't scratch at the lower screen on my screen door and end up tearing it. My dog is only small (6lbs.) but she always gets her front paws up enough to rip the screen. Preferably something not to costly. Thanks in advance!!

RVW has a screen protector that screws in the screen door. Dont think it was that expensive. They put it on for free when we purchased our camper. We have two Pugs! They like that lower screen also! But the protector seems to be doing its job.

I bought a sheet of lexan at the home store. It scores easy with a box cutter and snaps clean.
I "sprung it" a little and snapped it in place.
Done.
Total cost less than 10 bucks.

Had this problem with our old trailer. Home Depot/Lowes sells "Pet Proof" screening. It's heavy duty fiberglass screen that resists tears from pet nails. Our 70lb Shepard took out the OEM screen in one wack. I rescreened the door with this stuff and it held up till the day we traded it.

M109Rrider is right on. We re-screened our patio sliding door, both TT doors, a friends TT door (our dog ripped it) and our MH door. She (a 17 lb Shih Tzu) has not ripped a screen in over two years.

Just wantened to update how I solved the problem. I went to Home Depot and bought pet screen, it wasn't to bad but still my little dog was able to pull the weaving apart. The screen was not ripped but I had to sit there and put the weaves back in the right spot so it didn't look stupid. After that i went to a Do It Yourself hardware store that was near the CG we were at and got them to cut me a piece of plexy glass to fit over the entire bottom screen and I installed it with sticky back velcro and it worked great!! No more of the mangy mutt getting to the screen anymore!!!!

Shabby, that's what I used in the old camper and haven't had a chance to install in the new camper. I'll have to rig something up quickly, we leave Friday!

Now all you have to do is wipe the doggy "nose marks" off the plexiglass.

I guess I was the spender in the group. I got a Camco Screen door grill designed for campers on Amazon. My dogs know how to pop the door open to get out, but they also were damaging the screen.

you gotta trim those bad boys every now and them....they must be like eagle claws  0ur G. Sheppard couldn't even damage that stuff

Yea, he was a sissy.. Lol. I imagine if he were to dig at the pet screen it would shred but he would just take a whack at it to let us know he wanted out and it would hold up.

I think some dogs just can't be crated, one of my beagles hates them. I bought a crate for a husky thinking he would be happy with more room to move around. WRONG!! He chewed and worked the metal till he was able to fit though the side. That was a costly mistake, I just gave up. He is older now and perfers sitting next to me in the car anyway.

Ditto on the plexy glass ....We did the same thing, and using the sticky back velcro made it easily removed to restore back to the original screen door before we traded for our new 2012 RV!

Simple! Replace mesh with steel mesh and connect to battery with 12V fence wire system, available at farming supply stores and ToysRus, I think
