Download Netflix at home watch on the road?
I hear that it's possible to download Netflix content via their app for viewing later but my question is-
Can I download Netflix content and then view it on my big screen "dumb" TV??
Also- can you shed any light as to file size for say an hour or two of content?
If I download a movie how much phone memory does it take?
Thanks for any insight you can share!

I tried it the other day to see how it works. I downloaded a 1 hour TV show using my laptop and was able to view it on the laptop and also on a TV if I connected the laptop to the TV. Problem was I could not find where on the laptop hard drive Netflix stored the show.

I usually find everything downloaded in the default Download directory.
This is a great idea especially considering that many modern laptops can have huge hard drives. I have 1 TB of hard drive in my Laptop and a USB hard drive that has 2 TB of storage available.
The year I retired the company I worked for only had 1 TB of storage on the main computer system that managed close to a billion in annual sales. Storage was handled by daily backups and archiving files to tape.
As for watching on a Dumb TV, you will need a laptop with RGB video output or an HDMI to Component Video converter. You can then hook your HDMI output from your laptop (if it has one) to the converter then plug the RCA plugs into the proper inputs on your Dumb TV.
Here's one that's not real expensive:

You can also get a chrome cast if your TV has HDmi. It allows the computer to chrome cast to the TV from the laptop.

Playing recorded videos
I bought a small ($25) video player. HDMI from it into RV system. Picture to TV, sound out of RV system.
Player reads SD cards. Just transfer videos to SD card(s) before your trip. 16 GB card will hold several full length movies. Unless you want an extensive library at all times in the RV; this works great.

If you already pay for Netflix then you can purchase an Amazon Fire Stick for $29 and access all of the Netflix content on any TV with an HDMI port. The Fire Stick turns your TV into a Smart TV with all apps. And if you are already an Amazon subscriber, your Amazon included videos are also readily available. It was a lot cheaper to buy a Fire Stick instead of changing out my TT TV.

Yes you can. I downloaded to my ipad & an old Dell laptop.

I have with my laptop connecting with an HDMI cable to the TV (not tow vehicle either ) & it works well. Just open the Netflix app on the laptop & look in the upper right corner the 3 lines besides the word NETFLIX click on them & look for my downloads.

Sorry, but I have no idea. I downloaded about 18 hours & saw very little difference on a 120 GB SSD.
Thanks for any insight you can share!

This is what we did, however, it only works if you have a connection while camping. Many times we do not so we do what the OP is asking about by downloading movies ahead of time from Netflix. However, we watch our downloaded Netflix movies offline on my iPad because you have to use the Netflix app to access them. If there's a way to watch them on laptop, that would be ideal and I'd love to know about it because as it is we prop up the iPad and squint from our recliners! At home I plug my laptop into my TV for other reasons and use an HDMI to HDMI cord as my laptop has an HDMI port as does my TV.

Just tried it with a usb C to hdmi adapter with a charger port. It's a wired connection but works well. Also experimented with the quality of the download option. The download is much slower and 1 movie can use 1gig when using that option.

We use our iPhone as a hotspot to feed the Fire Stick. Works great. A one hour HD program uses about 1 GB of data.

I have downloaded Netflex movies to my laptop at home and then watched them at the campground. Some movie downloads expire after 48 to 72 hours. A movie is typically 1.5 to 2 GB

Is the laptop download feature something new? In the past I was only able to use iPad but I'd much rather use laptop. I'll be trying this tonight, thanks!

I have done that in the past but I don't have unlimited data anymore. Republic $20/mo plan. Never even come close to running out unless I were to do that

It is just in the app which you must install, similar to the one on your ipad.
We use the ipad for air travel & the laptop when we camp (if we have electric hook ups).

Doesn't matter if you can find them. They are encrypted files and can only be played through the app.

The OP hasn’t asked about a laptop at all, he asked about the app, and his phone.
First, size. I downloaded some episodes of Daredevil, they take between 200-250mb per 52 minute episode. Extrapolate from there.
Second, watching offline. You should be able to pipe them to the TV using an HDMI adapter, like this one from Apple, or the equivalent for Android:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/M...apter?fnode=97
However, I don’t happen to be near my adapter right now to confirm that it works.

Thank you all for the great discussion.
Others have different options than I do but that's all part of our great discussion boards!
In my case we have pay as you go phones but we also have a chrome book lap top. We will check out downloading Netflix content to the lap top and see about playing thru our rig's dumb TV.
I'll have to go check about input possibilities on the TV. It would be much better if I can play thru our Jensen sound system. It's also dumb.
It has a usb but doesn't understand MP4 files. I will have to check it out further as to possible input options.
It's old school for sure even though our rig is just going on 3 years old. Jensen doesn't seem to be trying to keep up with the technology very hard!
(I've always wondered WHY Jensen TVs which are made for RVing are 120v instead of 12v. It sure would be nice to be able to watch TV while boon docking without having to use an inverter! And don't get me started about no weather stations on the Jensen receiver/dvd player!)

You don't want to play through the Jensen. More than likely, there is no high def input or output. Go straight to the TV.
