Just curious why???? Our local Exxon station fills ours just as cheap as in one in town.

I know this is rare but the campground we go to has an outside vender propane truck that you can call and they will come to your camp site.
I am sure that it cost more but they come to you.

We have found while traveling around the country, TS is consistently the cheapest supplier, AND easily available to any we have found. NOW, that doesn't mean there isn't the exception, but we have found TS is always there and consistent

I will have to check TS out on the road (I do not see them often) but for home driving 5 miles to the gas station or 40 miles for a TS at the same price does not make sense.
Just wondering why not a gas station when they are just as cheap. But we don't need to fill our tanks but twice a year at the most.

My refill station, weighed them with the old valve, with the new OPD valve they go by the gallon meter. When it stops, the tank is full. Last price was $3.50/gallon.

Yes as a matter of fact I have.
Just because YOU never had a tank filled by putting it on a scale doesn't mean when it is done it is nonsense.
Things must be different in Idaho.
You need to go back and read the original post and those answers to that post in context before claiming nonsense.

Scales a plenty in MN
In MN many (all I have been to) still sell by weight on the scale. I bring mine in just like the tanks for our BBQ grill and get them filled. There is a enclosed 'shed' at the end of the filling tank, and they set them on the scale. They fill them until the scale rocks. I have yet to see propane sold by the gallon. The dealer where I bought our new camper fills propane, and I will have to inquire how they fill/sell the propane. I am curious now....

Ace is the place... I just filled my 30 pound tank at Ace Hardware and asked if they have a fixed rate or by the gallon. They charge by the gallon..

Where I get mine filled, they use the scale to see when they are full but sell the propane by the gallon.

Been filling portable tanks for 37 years in the west. Never seen a scale. You learn something new every day. I do exchange at Walmart when the cert runs out. The propane is more expensive but cheaper if you consider the cost of a new cylinder.

Our local has station sells by the gallon here in Southern Oregon. $1.99 per gallon the last time I filled up.
I have never seen anyone use a scale here on the west coast. Had a has station in either Minnesota or South Dakota fill us up last summer with a scale, that was a first.

For me it's just as easy to remove them from the trailer and put them in my truck and take them to get filled up.
Costco in Canada sells propane based on how much it takes to fill your tank . There is no flat fee. An 20 lb. tank that is empty usually runs about $10 Cdn at Coscto (~$7.50 US)

Got them filled at my local u-haul store that does not weigh...they just charge for gallons pumped through the meter. 10.4 gallons was $36.28 ($3.49/gal)

You're good on those tanks for another 2 years my friend. Tanks need to be recertified at the 12 year mark....placing you at 11/2021.

Just curious, what’s wrong with filling LPG tanks at a gas station? When you have a large RV with a frame mounted tank you can’t always get into the Tractor Supply lot or other places that have better prices, but not always better employees.

No certain, but reading all the comments, it appears to be location determined. I noted that all west coast commentators state that their tanks were not weighted, and most east coast were weighted. I live in the south east and used to live in the north east my tanks have always had to be removed and weighted. This may be local regulation or distributor policy. The only time I have seen otherwise is motor homes with builtin tanks and they have to find location that can accommodate them not all can. This is only an observation not a certainty.

lp tanks

On our TT, we have two 33 gal LP tanks. There is LP in both tanks, but I would like to top them off. When I go to an RV Park, Camping World, a gas station, wherever, do I have to disconnect and carry the tanks to the filling station, or can they fill them with it connected to my TT?
Is this decision based on law, the dealer, or what?
I know this is a very general question, but I have only had our tanks filled once. And we had to disconnect and carry to the filling station. I have an injured back and would prefer not to disconnect.
thanks

I work in a RV Resort. and I fill lp tanks. It is safer to fill tanks outside rv. So remove tanks.

No less safe then leaving them in if they can be accessed easy . what do you do with the motor coaches ? you fill them in place or do you make them take them out .

Wandering about this myself. Might be a west of the Mississippi vs east of the Mississippi thing like so many other things.
I used a tank exchange this weekend at the CVS drug store because the tank I had was out of date code. Next time I will refill at my regular propane service place.

I live in Delaware. Where I get my 2 20 lb tanks filled they have both a scale and by the lb volume method. Always on my tanks, they use the volume method and not the scale.

Probably not a big concern for most, but, in Ontario tanks need recertified every 10 years. I'm not sure about the other provinces.
