Firewood ban
With the ban on taking your firewood from home and the only other option of buying certified wood I decide to buy a propane fire pit from Amazon...... great decision and great purchase.... I bought the Outland 58K BTU with a cover and carrying strap and we have used it here at home and really like it.......... I love wood fires but lets face it....that's a lot of work.....this will be much easier and cheaper than buying wood....fire pit will also be used here at home on the covered deck.....cost as about $150 but it will be worth it......... check them out if you are camping in an area where "home" firewood is banned.......

Might have to check that out our campground has posted you can't bring your own firewood, but not sure how they'll keep it out since everyone I see brings there own, and there wood is terrible for campfires.

My area that is affected by this ban in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. All of the federal parks such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have this in place.... also the state parks in the area....... it might be more wide spread than I know about........ check with your local camping sites

New York has the firewood ban in place also. And yes, the wood they sell at these places or near by is way to wet to burn. It mostly smolders from what we bought last season.

It is...up north in Canada, western Quebec and eastern Ontario under restriction.
As previously stated, due to emerald ash borer.
Wood sold at campgrounds around here is crap also...green, wet and VERY EXPENSIVE.

As long as I'm close to home I bring wood but Hauling it 200 to 300 is a lot of extra weight so for those trips I look for places that sell good dry wood near where we camp. There usually are all kinds of them, Amish are good for it in this area. Like Scottdawg said NY is on a ban but hasn't stopped local people from bringing it yet.

There are many more problems that may be spread with non local firewood than just the emerald ash borer. The Hemlock woolly adelgid is destroying
trees that can be as old as Daniel Boone. I've heard now there might be a
disease that kills maples!!
People who continue to haul firewood out of the area aren't helping!!
Indiana has a list of firewood sellers scattered around the state.
You can download the list and try to find a seller that is near your next
camping spot and purchase wood from them. It is typically cheaper and
dryer than what you get at the campground.
We camped at KY horse camp last summer (KY state park) and I purchased
2 bundles of wood from the camp store. Both were so green they would
not burn!! THIS is partly why people continue to move wood- what you
get at the campground is no good for burning! Seems like the powers that
be at the state level could figure that out.
Last summer we camped in TN and they were selling kiln dried certified
wood from KY! THAT was good wood and I was happy to get it.
I wish KY would sell that!!
I'm not ready to go the LP fire route just yet but it is an option fer sure.

The emerald ash borer is the most serious threat to our forests today ( outside of man). It is primarily spread to distant areas by transporting infected wood. The ban on moving firewood is critical to prevent the spread. In many states moving firewood without a permit is illegal.

You cannot bring firewood into Florida. You have to buy locally. I imagine it's similar in many states.

Iowa has a firewood movement ban.
Do not transport it across the state lines.
They also strongly suggest not moving it from county to county as well.

we heat our house with wood and after this long cold winter I'm tired of fooling with wood

???
We stayed at Topsail Hill Preserve SP. They had no fire directly on the
ground rule. We knew this from previous trips so we brought one of these--
Hampton Bay Lawrence 29 in. Round Wrought Iron Fire Pit-DS-16595 - The Home Depot
The best $40 I've spent in a while. After a week of fires it still looks
OK. I might give it a shot of hi-temp paint one day but it's good to go
for next FL trip!

OK some parks do ban fires altogether. Not all of Florida tho.
I can understand that especially if
they are in a fire danger zone OR crowded. We've camped in CGs before
that I wished had a ban. They were packed and the smoke was dense.
One comes to mind that is in a little valley. On weekends when it's full the smoke is annoying at best and choking at worst. People do love their
camp fires

If it's the emerald ASH borer we're concerned with, why not just ban the import of ash? Looks to me like we're using a sledge hammer to drive a tack.

I like others would hate to see the day where your "Campfire" is propane, nothing like that crackle and pop. We stayed in a CG in eastern Ontario abd for $5.00 got this huge nylon feed bag......thought well this could be good. Looked inside our new found treasure and it was a bag full of lumber cut offs like someone raided a construction site. Kiln dried wood sure did burn hot!
