Exclamation Folding Hand Rail - Don't get locked in!

OK, looking for a solution to the title. Our "lift and fold" entree hand railing will swing over the door for travel and storage. However, thieves can use this same feature to "lock" you in your RV, so they can make a quick get-a-way if noticed.

Is there a slick, easy method of combating this, that can be used every time we camp, yet not easy for the crooks to undo also? The mounting assembly is too large to just throw a padlock on...

Please share any ideas you have to secure our folding hand rails while in camp...so crooks don't lock us in our own rig, and steal our outdoor treasures.

Thanks,

They make a add on hand rail for these, so one could fold the factory one back the other way and pin....

I think it was determined from an earlier thread, that if you push on your door hard enough the handle will swing out of the way.

Yes, all you have to do is push on your door and the handle will open. I went inside had the wife push the handle over as if traveling and all I had to do was give a stern push and the door opened. Not to worry.

Thanks,
I think worrying about thievery while camping is extremely overblown. I have left stuff laying around outside while we were away from the campsite many times when camping and nothing has ever been touched. Nor have I ever heard of anyone saying that they have being robbed while camping. Coupled with that fact is I seriously doubt any potential robber will even think of "locking you in" with your door handle.

If you are like my wife and worry that if you don't worry enough, something bad will happen, then I suggest worrying about something with a higher statistical probability... Like the ISS accidentally de-orbiting and landing on your campsite.

Now, thievery when your camper is stored and not in use is a totally different ball of wax. IMHO there is literally nothing that can be done to keep a determined crook out of your camper. All you can hope to do is secure it to a level above the thief's determination.

Tim

Fold the handle to the rear

I always fold my door handles to the rear. There is really no reason to fold them forward. The doors will not swing open when traveling - they can't with the wind blowing against them. But what if you were inside and a fire broke out and seconds counted and you had any trouble at all getting out, or worse, if my DW was in that situation?

My camper has 2 entrances. There is no folding handle at the second.

Is that by choice or design, Tim? My Flagstaff also has two entrance doors, but both have handles.

I do see that. I kinda assumed they all had them, as you see from this pic that both of mine does. (not my trailer actually but an internet pic of same make/model)

I actually use the hand rails when entering my trailer.

I guess that is an outdoor kitchen on yours that won't allow a folding type handrail by the door.

Yes, outdoor kitchen. One of the DW's favorite features.

Really no need to say. The OP asked a legitimate question about a concern they had on their new RV, and as such gained the needed information from the experience of others that it's not going to be a problem, and how the door can be opened still.

This is what the forums are about, sharing collective wisdom that we benefit from. It's all good.
