Ford key fob programming.

Here's a little tip some of you may already know about. About 15 years ago I found a Ford key fob with a few keys in a mall parking lot.
Not sure why I held on to them so long. Guess I was hoping the owner would magically appear to claim them.
But after recently buying a Class C Forester with the Ford E450 chassis I got to looking into the possibility of making that key fob work on the new E450. A quick check on YouTube turned up a simple technique for programming Ford fobs. I tried it and Shazam! I now have a third working key fob for the RV.
If you have an old fob lying around, check it out. Took about a minute to do it.

It's good that you already had two working fobs. I needed a second fob/key but could not program it without going to a Ford dealer. Two working fobs are required for non-dealer programing additional ones.

I dont believe that i had to have 2 keyfobs when i programmed mine. I transferred on from my previous 1998 expedition to my current 2009 F150. the procedure is below. I want to say I used the first set of directions, took maybe 2 minutes to do. since i have memory seats, each keyfob moves the seat to that drivers set position when unlocking the doors.

For keys you have to have two existing, fobs doesn’t matter.

My wife lost her car keys for the Infinity and a locksmith duplicated it (chip) ..Why would you need a dealer?

I was talking about programming keys on your own on a Ford.

Another nice capability. For those with keyless ignition. Your vehicle can be programmed so that you can't move the gear shift unless the fob is inside the vehicle. Some vehicles are programmed that way. On ones that aren't you can request the change from your dealer or do it yourself. To make this change and others on Ford vehicles, check do a search for FORSCAN. You need a diagnostic reader tool that costs about $30 and a windows based laptop. Everything else is free. I've turned off the horn honk that the engine is running and drivers door ajar with engine running sounds. Figured other folks in campgrounds really didn't want to hear my trucks nanny notices while I hitched up - especially if it was early in the morning.

You need two fobs to program another. They don't want someone to use a lone fob to program another in case someone like a valet has one of them.

I just ordered 2 spare fobs for my truck. Cheap insurance. My truck has push button start. Super easy to program.

I don't think you need 2 FOBs to program a new one.

Ford key fob programming.

I’ve programmed Ford fobs without any existing fobs, and that’s using the “tap the brakes twice and slam the drivers door three times” procedure, or whatever it is lol. I can’t remember the procedure at the moment.

On my old F150 (03) all I had to do was lay the new fob on the dash and do a sequence turning the ignition key on and off several times and the new fob would receive the code. Now on the older ones, my S.I.L. gave my wife one of his extras from a ford truck, for her to use on her Escape. I programmed it and then it would lock and unlock both vehicles. I did have a little fun with that when both vehicles were in our driveway.

Depends on how new your truck is. If the FOB is needed to start your truck, like my 2018 is, you need 2 FOBs.

On this 2018 ford E450 I did not need any other fobs. You just turn key from off position to on position (do not start) 8 times and the doors will lock and unlock to indicate programming mode is on. Then press any button on the fob. Done!
However.... You need to press a button on all fobs, including existing fobs so they all get same code. Otherwise, the older fobs will no longer work.

And my fob is door locks/alarm only. I have a key to start the engine.

Our RV is a 2017 chassis built late 2015. I only need one set of keys to be in there, not both fobs.

Your fob is not likely needed to start your vehicle since its a heavy duty chassis. It's not a smart fob. If the fob is needed to start the vehicle, two are required.

Leave your fob outside your vehicle and only use the key. If it starts, that is why.

I just bought two new fobs for my 2018 F-150 and programmed them. It definitely required both of the old ones to be there.
