Fridge Temperature

Here is a tip I did in my Sunline.

The fridge was the type that controlled the temp by sliding a plastic sleeve up and down a cooling fin. Had to open the door to adjust or find out if it was warm or cold.

I bought a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer. I placed the battery operated outside remote sensor in the fridge. Now I monitor with an accurate digital readout.

I dont like this cheap thermostat. A real thermostat like they had before was better than this plastic sleeve that fall sometimes!

yup. this seems so cheap, in addition... how does sliding a plastic sleeve up/down one of the metal fins adjust the temp? has anybody figured that out?
while camping the past couple days adjustments up & down didn't change the temp anything too noticeable.

It's got something to do with the little tube and wire coming out attatched to the plastic sleeve. Don't know exactly how, but it works.

Yep, they work, this design has been around a long time. Its a thermistor inside the plastic, must be in contact with the fin to work. Slide up temp will drop. Not a big range, but this isn't a $4,000 reefer either. A thermistor is simply a temp sensitive resistor. Slide up it causes the electronics to drive the cooling system a little longer.

our wire/tube wasn't attached to the plastic slider but was just hanging there. i looked and can guess how it should be attached, but i don't know how far up the wire/tube should be on the plastic slider? could somebody post a pick?
this could explain why the fridge was hovering around zero!
thanks in advance..

how far into the plastic slider does the wire thing go? is it just the white cap that clips on or does it go further in?
Thanks

Never saw it apart Rick, just slid it a few times, look inside the plastic for a indent area, if none I'd center it to get max adjust range.

Herk or Turbo - perhaps one of you can jump in here and explain.

Do you have this adjuster in your rig? These are becoming rare. Only used in smaller boxes and lots in older installations to adjust box temp, freezer was best case. Most now are 3 button choice or 0-5 choices on LED display.

Vince - yes we have this adjuster (it is called a thermsistor I believe) in our rig (2012 Silverback) in addition to the cold-coldest buttons.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about this recently. I suggest you do a search for more information - I might have not spelled thermsistor correctly.
