Generator Sale

I get a daily "special of the day" e-mail from Home Depot. They have generators on sale...if someone is interested.... Not Honda/Yamaha etc... but maybe O.K. for some.

I see they have a 3000 watt (3500 peak) for $549 which is $300 off. Says operational decibels is 63 which is 3 less than the motor home mounted Onan QG4000. Not bad if somebody is looking for a generator about half price of the Honda

I find most of them way to loud and heavy to handle. Most do not have the 30amp connection. Later RJD

I don't see that one. Would you mind posting the link for it?

63db is not quiet.
That's 10db louder than a Honda, which on a logarithmic scale, is WAY louder.
That's why Hondas cost more.

Most parks will not allow you use anything with open frame design because of noise concerns

I think he was referring to the Sportsman 3500, which is an inverter generator:
Sportsman 3,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Digital Inverter Generator with Built-in RV Outlet-800500 - The Home Depot

If it was $549 yesterday that is a good deal--if it works and is reliable. It shows as $849 for me now.

Well, 63db is a terrible db rating for an inverter generator.

I just purchased (ordered) this one from Rural King: Champion 3100 Watt Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator 75531i by Champion Power Equipment (josh) for $849.97 in Generators - Shop Equipment - Tools : Rural King

Very good reviews that I have found so far. Only 84lbs dry, and youtube videos with use show low DBs and will run 13.5 AC but not with the mircowave at the same time (ok with me). Video is here: with the review and testing with a meter for sound levels.

Tests he did show 58 to 59 on full run (non econo mode) at 28' and a bit lower in econo mode.

Champion Model: 75531i

its on sale for only $764 w/$30 shipping (direct from the factory not in stock).

if anyone has one of these I would like to hear back about it.

Tx

Tractor's Supply also has the Champion 3500/4650 on sale now for $335 and it does have an RV 30amp plugin plus 2 110 plugs. They also have the 3500/4000 unit for $299. Yes, they are loud, but for the money what do you expect? I believe the bigger unit was right at 90 lbs.

dB is a logarithmic scale and every 3dB higher is a factor of 2. So 6dB louder will be four times as loud.

Depends what you are comparing it to. This one has a higher operating wattage than a Honda 3000, for example. Videos show it to be relatively quiet unless at full load. At $550 it would be a fraction of the cost of that Honda as well.

An open frame will generally be loud all the time, and often annoyingly so with the rattling of components. You won't get that with this generator.

Doesn't matter, the deal is over. I certainly wouldn't even consider it at its usual price. If I was looking for something in that price range it would be Champion 3100. I already have a Yamaha inverter though and it runs flawlessly.

I have the 3100 Champion invertor. I use it a lot when we want to have a less noisy generator running. I have had it for 3 years and would recommend it to anyone. We camp in the winter when snowmobiling and it will run all night on a tank of gas. Cant even hear it inside the coach.

I also have the Champion 3100 inverter, I love it, it will run my AC on eco mode and in full on mode it will run everything I need. Last all night on a tank of gas as well plus it is very quiet. I did get the model with remote start which is great in the morning when you can just hit a button on the FOB and it starts right up, no going outside. I would recommend this to anyone. I had returned the Honda's and went to the Champion for more than half the price than two Honda's to run what this unit will do on its own.

I ordered my Champion last weekend. I just got in yesterday morning. It was shipped directly from Champion.

I will get it setup in the next few days and get it tested with a meter. I need to borrow from my brother. I will get it tested in eco mode and normal mode at various distances.

I know most tests are at about 23' distance from the generator. Is that standard distance for testing?

I use the Boliy 3600SXi It will run my 15000 btu AC. Also it has turn key start. DB is 53 to 58 which is close to Honda. Mine has the new feature for adding a 6 gal tank now I sleep all night long with AC on and never get up to fill. Also shipping is free Later RJD

I got my Champion 3100I for $600.00 it was a black Friday special. I'm thinking about selling it and buying the Champion 3100I with remote start. Great generator!

Not quite correct, believe it is 1.6, power is a factor of 2. Also the db level depends on where it is measured. Champion, I believe, is from some specified footage. The db level decreases quite a bit when distance is involved.
