Georgetown Power Cord Rat Seal

What is the best remedy for blocking rats or mice from climbing up the power cord and getting into the coach?

So far, I’ve stuffed....and I mean stuffed, the remaining opening with giant sponge foam to fill the gap. If I find it doesn’t work, I’ll stuff it with steel wool....apparently that works pretty well to keep critters away.

Our power cord connects to the outside but I was concerned about the same issue with the opening / pass through for the water hose.

I had a 8x8 piece of corian laying around. I put a 2 1/4 hole in it and place it over the opening with the hose going through it. I then take a piece of pool noodle over hose and shove it into the 2 1/4 hole. It's a pretty tight fit and does the job!

I don't know how practical this would be but we put rat guards on the mooring lines of our ships when I was in the navy.

I'm not familiar with the area your talking about ~ so I can only suggest 2 ways to prevent entry:

#1 - try to attach 1/4" hardware screen. Cut a square piece large enough to cover the hole, cut toward the center from one side and then cut a small hole in the center for the cord to pass thru. Attach to your unit by screws with washers to hold the screen in place. If possible, spray foam over the screen.

#2 - stuff the hole with coarse grade steel wool. Separate the wool somewhat and stuff the area of concern. Spray foam over the steel wool will help hold in place.


Using foam alone will not stop them as they can & will chew thru the foam.

We use stainless steel pot scrubbers.
For the winter we have loaded up with peppermint oil on cotton balls and some of the cab rid packets.

I'm not familiar with the Georgetown, but this is what I did to my FR3. I used a hacksaw and a round file to carve out a slot in the plastic cap. The cord goes through the hole... then I put the cap on and position the cord into the slot..
The cap still treads on and there isn't enough room for anything to fit up the power cord and into the coach.

Great answer 2jump36...shoulda thought of that myself. Evidently the FR3 and current G’towns have that configuration in common! Will be giving it a try for sure.

Here is my solution. I cut a four inch circle out of some scrap 1/2" MDF and a five inch circle out of some 1/8" fiberboard. I drilled a one inch hole in each piece and a 1/4" hole in each center. I cut an angled slot in each piece to the 1" hole and joined the two with a 1/4" bolt and nuts with the slots facing opposite directions. Rotate the pieces so the slots open up in a common opening and then rotate the pieces so the slots close around the cord and insert into the floor opening.
