I mis-stated when I said all roads. I meant to say you can use either one interchangeable. I have ePass in the truck and DW's car has Sunpass. They both work on Fl Turnpike and other toll roads in Fl. The sign may say ePass keep right but a Sunpass will also work.
I just looked up that Sunpass was also good in GA and NC, so bottom line is Supass and ePass are good in Fl, GA and NC...not PA, yet... They (Sunpass) are working on that...

I thought I read online, so it must be true, that by 2016 or 2017 they are mandated by the feds to be compatible a cross all brands of the e pass, surpass, and ezpass.

And how are the FEDS going to enforce this un-fund mandate?
Just like the individual drivers license for each state are to conform to the Fed requirements but don't. It has been reported starting next year that you will not be able to use your driver license as a form of identification for identification purposes unless this meets the Fed standards. I know IL driver license do not meet this standard and will not for sometime.

They will do like everything else... Refuse to give money. They do not fund ezpass, but the state puts money into the turnpike and highways and they get some of that some from the feds.. So indirectly that is how they do it. That is why in PA our dui limit was dropped from. 10 to. 08... Seat belt law enacted... Initial highway speed put to 65 from 55... The feds threatened to stop giving money. Money talks and BS walks...

Edit: I see licenses from other states that say they cannot be used as official ID all the time. When I look them up under the id guide it says it is because they do not meet federal standards. I remember when my sister had to pay extra to get a photo on her new Hampshire license.

In Il the toll roads are not federally fund. The toll road is totally funded by the the toll road user through the toll fees on the road. Nor are any state funds used either for the IL toll road. So there is no incentive to make the I-pass or the EZ pass to be able to work on all toll roads in the US. I know for a fact that my I-pass did not work in CO, and OK on theses toll roads, but did work on most of the toll roads east of the Mississippi River.

I used highways as an example, but it is anywhere federal money is used in your state. But since you say they are 100% funded.. Good for IL to be off the feds grips and 100% self funded.. Not normal.
But when everyone else moves to the compatible system IL will be left in the dust.. Only usable in IL because my guess they will all need to change to a new RFID type frequency common among the passes. My guess your pass will not just so happen to be the one they switch to. If they are like every other money making corporation they will keep up just to keep making money from you using your pass East of the Mississippi.

When last I towed in NY, (which does have EZ Pass), I still needed to go through the "truck" lanes because they did not have axle counters installed in the approach.
Once you pulled up to the toll taker, the operator just keyed in your axles/weight and waived you through (charging your EZ Pass).
Only cars can use the designated EZ Pass lanes in NY for that reason unless there has been a big change recently.

Hmm, not sure if I've used the ezpass in NY. Guess that makes sense. They just installed the similar invoicing system like Florida's along the PA NJ border. Pretty neat buy not looking good for toll takers..

The toll roads may not be federally funded but the interstates are and that there will be enough incentive to push the states to adopt te ezpass, su pass and whatever pass to work on all roads. No state is free of federal highway funding and that will be the funds withheld if states do not fall in line with mandate.
Use to work for PennDOT. PennDOT and turnpike commission funding are intertwined. Now PennDOT gets some of the turnpikes revenue the last I knew.
Bottom line Feds will most always get what they want by withholding any and all state federal funding.

I called EZ Pass and they gave me a blue colored EZ Pass to use while towing. Seem simple enough as long as I remember to switch back the original once done towing. Another thing to add to the check list. Your statement is correct also about the operator making the correction and waving you thtough, a booth worker told me something similar last summer when I asked.

EZ Pass and not towing
So for those who do not tow but drive only a motorhome, can we use the express lanes in NY?
I have used the express lanes in PA, NJ and MD without any problem so far. Although I am still not sure about Maryland.

As technology improves, they really won't even need transponders any more. Here in IL I have 3 vehicles registered to a single transponder account but I keep the transponder in the camper as that's what we use when go east. When we use the cars in IL, without the transponder, the camera's see the plate and charge us. It also sees whether or not you are towing at each toll lane and charges correctly, never misses, darn it. I'd like to thank the governor who put this system in, once he gets out of prison.

I wonder how well those camers work in snow storms and with the filthy cars after the storms.
Maybe they will start installing the RFID in the license plates.

Don't forget to put the one you are not using in the Mylar bag (or wrap in aluminum foil). You might get charged on both ...
I added the camper's tag to my EZ Pass account and my SunPass Account.
