Honda 2000 and Sea Foam
One of my eu2000's started surging in eco mode. I only use real gas and always drain the carb at the end of the season and I've never had any problems. We went tailgating this weekend and noticed the surge for the first time.
Today I poured a good shot of Sea Foam in the tank and let it run for about an hour in regular mode. When I went back and tried in eco mode again it was back to its old, quiet self.

Not sure if it's related or not but my Yamaha 2000 is really sensitive to its oil level, it will start surging if the oil is even a little low.

Sea Foam has been around a long time and I have used it for years. Sea Foam is one of the few "snake oils" that really do work, and works very well. Highly recommended!

It would have likely cleared up by itself without the SeaFoam. SeaFoam is just Naptha, oil and isopropyl alcohol. It is not a magic elixir.

What?? YES IT IS!! LOL
Actually, it is made up of:
25% Cleaner>Naphtha
60% Stabilizer>Kerosene
15% Oxygenate> Isopropyl Alcohol (common Rubbing Alcohol)
And I'd rather buy a can than try and mix all that together correctly.

Just don't use it in anything with O2 sensors. I know it says it is safe..what else are they going to say.

Their older MSDS listed the "Trade Secret" Ingredients as Naptha and Pale Oil. So many forums blasted them for it that they stopped publishing it!
If you really want a good cleaner, use something with PEA(Poly Ether Amine)in it. Techron is PEA among other brands.

Sea foam is good for just about anything. If it wouldn't kill me I'd probably drink the stuff to see if I could start running better.

What I do with small engines
If it doesn't have tires on it, I treat all gas with Marine Stabil (Blue color). I use only Ethanol Free gas (like all gas was a few years ago) in my small engine equipment: lawnmowers, tillers, generators, chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers, snowmobiles, etc. I figure that I never know when the last time I am going to use it for a season is so I treat year round. It might be a little hard to find but in my area it is the same price as high octane pump gas (with ethanol).
Since doing this my carb issues have dropped to nearly zero. I had a surging 1000 Watt Yamaha generator two years ago that was a chunk of crud stuck in the carb. Shot some carb cleaner into the carb being careful to get all of the little holes on the air inlet side (bleeds, power valves, low speed air jet, etc.) and away it went, good as ever. The Honda generator does not have a fuel shutoff - the Yamaha lets you run the carb dry and if you do this start pulling the choke know as it starts to run rough to clear all of the gas from the carb.
I would love to see the Ethanol crap we have to use moved back to the gas these small engines were designed to use. E85 will kill most boats, ATVs, and small engine powered equipment. Enough politics.......

Because a good portion of SeaFoam is oil. You do not want oil in your fuel as it will coat the O2 sensor and reduce it's life or cause it to fail.

E85 is only to be used by autos that have an ECU that can adjust mixture and timing to account for its properties. Nobody in their right mind would use E85 in anything but a car labeled for it.
On the other hand, E10 is commonly used and 99.9% of people never have issues with it. I have 2 boats, and numerous small engines that all get E10 with never a drop of Stabil and never fail.

Hey Carlsbad, don't let any naysayers here get to you. Seafoam flat out works. Ask anyone that has actually used it. Works wonders for just the type issue you had. Nuff said.....

It worked for me and that's all that matters.
I'm careful with my stuff. There's a gas station that sells 100% gas and that's all that goes in any of my generators and power equipment. I always drain my Honda carb at year end. I didn't really want to pay to have it serviced and didn't have the time to tear it apart.
The SF worked great.
