How to remove adhesive from vinyl decals
Our Cherokee Wolf has faded and mostly peeled off the camper. We want to remove the adhesive but are having a hard time finding something that won't also remove the paint underneath.
Any suggestions?
TIA

Goo-gone works well. You will still see a ghost image due to fading though.

Believe it or not, but try WD40.

I have used brake cleaner on my work van to remove old letters. Heat gun for the vinyl then sprayed the adhesive with the brake cleaner to clean.

I use a rubber wheel on a drill. It's designed for removing vinyl graphics and pinstriping from autos. I bought it at Napa for about $35. Yes expensive, but will not damage any painted or gell coat.

Any penetrating oil should do the trick. There is lube/cleaner made by Walter called X-force. It will remove adhesive and inks. It is non-toxic and sorta smells like chocolate.

I agree with the heat gun/ hair dryer method- just not the brake cleaner. That has a high probability of damaging the paint. We use isopropyl alcohol from cvs. Does surprisingly well.

Thanks all. The decal is completely gone what is left the the backing of the decal. We are heading out to the storage on Saturday and I will let you all know what works for us without going down to the aluminum.

You may have to take a little polish to the paint as many times a shadow of the decal will remain

heat gun but be careful it will peel the paint if held too long in one direction. WD-40 usually takes it off be careful with brake cleaner it may remove paint on some surfaces. If not in a hurry peanut butter will loosen the adhesive. I worked at a van conversion factory the guys used the heat gun and a piece of wood shaped into a wedge as a scraper to remove the graphics then lacquer thinner to remove excess adhesive.

PVC pipe cleaner will remove the glue. I used it on removing my truck decals.

We went out this morning and the PVC pipe cleaner also removed the paint down to the metal. Yes it takes it off easy and we are going to continue and then paint.

The WD40 will not hurt the paint and will take the glue off. I tried it on one I had on my TT and it worked no problem, took a little elbow grease, but no damage to the paint at all.
