I need help!

Finding calgon water softener powder in Central Florida. I read the artical NDJollymon posted about waste tank maintanence and it seems like a good idea for anyone like myself who recently bought a used RV. Since I don't know the history of the 5ver, I am going to do the cleansing part and then the routine maintanence. But I went to Wally world , and to Ace is the place and can't find this stuff anywhere. I'm hoping I don't have to buy it online, but if no one knows where to get it local I'll order it Monday.

I've bought it at Wal Mart and grocery stores. Sometimes, I get the liquid.
It's almost NEVER where you would think at the store either. Never hurts to ask someone. (although sometimes you'll get that "deer in the headlights" look)

It won't be hard to find in a grocery store I'm sure. But can you point me to Jolly's article. I'm curious about what it's for.

Like the others, only place I found it was in the grocery store in the laundry detergent section. Wally world didn't have it here.

Ewwww. Not Feminine bath products! That's not Man territory what with the loofas and oils and whathaveyou. We feel your pain man... here, hold this nail gun for a minute, it will help with the dizziness.

I guess Calgon is NOT going to "take me away". I have talked to people smarter than myself, which isn't hard to do, I'm going to try cascade dishwasher detergent. I guess the " sheeting action" would do the same thing as the calgon. It's septic tank safe so it shouldn't cause any trouble in the holding tanks, so we'll see. I'll know after this weekend, I'm going to add some tonight and leave it until we dump the tanks Sunday.

so, if you use the water softener etc, did I understand the original article to say that you do not need to use black tank chemicals??? I would think that I could use both, use the water softener to clean the sides of the tank and the chemical to break down the solids. Did I misunderstand the original author? - Thanks

A lot of rv parks ,down here at least, don't like the blue chemicals in their septic systems. I take it as an alternitive to the chemicals, in theory keep it clean to start with and you won't have the smell to cover up. I've always been told if you are using septic safe paper and dumping the tank when it's at least 2/3 full you shouldn't need chemicals. It never seems like it works out that way with the heat in Florida, but I'm hoping to kind of get a "fresh start " since we recently purchased this fifth wheel. I hope this helps.
