Infants and Camping

We started camping with our son when he was 3 months old. Over the past year we have made some adjustments. We upgraded to the XLR 30fqsl because our old 21ft wasn't big enough for all of the "stuff".

We found a high chair made by Caio Baby.. Greatest invention in the baby camping realm I have ever seen. It's a portable baby high chair that collapses like a regular camping chair. We take it everywhere with us.



We also bought futon type chairs for the rear of the TH to make a playroom. This enabled us to ditch the pack and play. It's actually a fun room to hang out in now. And the futons flip to a twin sized bed and if he rolls off, he is only falling 4".



Still trying to figure out how to baby proof the living room tv..



Anything y'all have done or found to make camping with children easier?

Duct tape. Lots and lots of duct tape.

As our little guy got moving, we found he would push the screen out as he tried to watch the other kids play. A piece of plexiglass cut to size stopped that.

For baby proofing the screen door, if you have a flip over grab handle- just flip it over so that it blocks the door. That way, when junior grabs the handle- the door only opens an inch or so.

I'm not going to say how long it took me to finally figure out what you were referring to. But it was probably a lot longer than it should have.

When we started our family we graduated from our tent (carried in a cargo trailer pulled behind a Honda GoldWing motorcycle) to a 10' Coleman popup (pulled by the minivan). I still have the motorcycle and cargo trailer, but not the tent, van or popup.

Enjoy the kids while they're still young.

All I kept thinking of was the door latch. I knew that couldn't be right. I guess I didn't think of the outside handle right away because we never use ours. We have a deck so we never need it.

We have camped with our, now 22 month old, son from the beginning. The Caio High Chair is awesome, though we graduated from that this season. We spend very little time inside while camping, and we have refused a TV in the camper. I will be putting polycarbonate over the screens very soon as he has began to push out the screens. The time he does spend inside (usually breakfast, sometimes lunch, naps, sleeping, and often while DW and I clean) he wants to look out the screen which results in him leaning on it with all his might. If we kept him inside more I could see the need for other things but all we have to do is pack plenty of soap to keep him clean.

I'm glad I saw this! My wife is about to give birth to twins in the next few days and we're planning to take them on their first camping trip in Oct. I'm glad we're not the only crazy ones out there to be camping with babies ��

I have taken our son twice by myself the past few months. It was tough setting up and tearing down. I ended up putting him in a cheap stroller and walking him around while I connected/disconnected everything.

Camping with a 3 month old really wasn't all that hard. We just made sure we weren't too far off the beaten path with our campgrounds. We took a Fisher Price chair for him to sleep in. Worked out well.



Another thing we have learned is to start travel at 7:30PM. We leave right at his bedtime. He ends up sleeping the whole way and I leave him in the truck while setting up. I also put the monitor in the truck so I keep tabs on him while working on the camper. Once set up and the air is on, I try to sneak him in there without waking him up. I'm about 50/50 with that task.

It was way easier at 3 months than it is now at 15 months. At least keeping up with him anyway. It has been more fun each time we go, with him beginning to do more.

Glad you reminded me of the flip over stair grab bar. First time I'm having my granddaughter stay in RV with us. My grandson understood, "no" and once said he'd leave stuff alone. My grand daughter will look straight at you while she repeats the action again and again. I can also stop my dog from opening the screen door now. Thanks again.
