Instant hot water without tank less wh.

I've found a solution for instant hot water without a on demand wh.

Install pump "very quiet" at wh then install "recirculation valve" at furthest tap from wh.
The valve opens up when water cools and returns it back on the cold side allowing hot water at all times.

Also has a timer for "on demand" times.


These can be found cheaper.

Had a similar system put in our house in Asheboro, NC. They are fantastic. Ours ran 24/7 and no timer. When the previous owners replaced the wh, they set it at the far end of the house under the master bath. The kitchen was on the opposite end of the house and took forever to get hot water. The recirc. pump solved the problem. Only cold water coming from the hot line was the amount from the faucet down to the supply line. Maybe a 1 or 2 cups.

You have to have a return line from the furthest faucet back to the pump.

No return needed.
That's what that black valve is for.

The way it shows in this video http://webapps.easy2.com/cm_mvc/Gene...ge_id=35844403 the warm water from the HOT water line gets pushed through the valve and into the COLD line back to the WH. Would this not cause the COLD water to be warm?

Question, does this mean that a person with this installed can have a long hot shower even with a 6 gal water heater? Or it this just for instant hot water?

I would say just instant hot water. The amount of hot water does not change.

Cold water will be warm for about 2 cup fulls of water then cold again.

Just instant hot water. The amount is strictly based on the recovery rate of your heater. If you have a low flow discharge, you might be able to take a long hot shower.

I was so amused that I never thought to take pics. It is etched in my mind however.
Last summer we camped outside of Gettysburg PA. at Gettysburg Farm Resort (nice Thousand Trails resort)and there was your solution. WAY in the back.
An elderly couple in a ragged 1970's era 22'+/- TT was really giving their son 'what for" as he broke camp while they sat on the picnic table, in the 95 degree heat. He removed a BIG 8000 btu window A/C unit from the back window placing it in the bed of the TV, a late 70's Dodge. Then as I went around to the west side of this spectacle I saw the best hot water solution imaginable for campers with your desire. On that side of this "rig" another son was unwiring a residential 30 gallon hot water heater! Sitting on the ground at the entrance door. From under this trailer sprouted many feet of Romex type wiring and coils of PEX piping!
I had to stop to chat.
The "boys", in their 50's, introduced themselves and explained that Ma and Pa lived about 9 miles from the resort and insisted on camping several times each summer. They allowed as how they could break down and head home in half an hour or so, having had much practice.
And yes Ma really enjoyed her long, hot showers!

LOL! That had to have been a sight! It's meeting people of all sorts that make life interesting and I say more power to them but I definitely would not choose to have that setup - it would take away from the fun of being setup in less that 15 minutes

Yep, I think I can make do just fine with a 6 gal w/h and fast showers, I'll consider it to be part of my camping experience, just like they considered what they did to be part of their experience - I just don't care to be that entertaining!

This is interesting, since it recirculates internally, this should conserve some water since you wouldn't need to purge the cold water out of the line. As much as I boon dock that would prove useful, thanks for posting this!

It's a 110V pump which wouldn't work boon docking.

This would conserve water but only if you have shore power which oc stated "pump needs 110"

Menards have or had them for $130.00, regardless it's about saving water especially if it's limited while boondocking.

Even if that's not the case, people with only 6 gallon wh ' s can benefit from instant hot water so as to not run out of hw as quick.

If you're boon docking, it is useless unless you have a generator running constantly. DUH!
