It just struck me as funny!

A few minutes ago, I accessed my account to update my profile. While I was there I scrolled down to check all of my information and found the note: "If your date of birth has changed, please contact the Administrator." How is that even possible??? Come to think of it...I want to move mine ahead about 5 years!!

[Hope I didn't offend anyone!]

Why is "Date of Birth" even requested? I know a lot of sites request it, but does anybody give their real date of birth? I don't. The collection of personal identifying data is how the dark web got started.

Some people are very careful to guard their personal information. Every "cyber security expert" recommends to keep their Social Security Number, Birth Date, and Mother's Maiden Name, as secret as possible.

Just think how many times you have to give those names to set up a Bank Account, etc. Things that are essentially "the keys to the kingdom" for hackers and identity thieves.

For security conscious people (or paranoids), the birthdate given for registration on a forum may not be their real one. What difference does it make?

If there is an age limit for participation sites should just have a box one could check saying I'm over that age limit.

The rules require forums and other websites that require registration to require the users age. I believe it's so that anyone under 13 isn't allowed to join, or something like that.

So wouldn't a simple box to be "checked" saying "I'm over the age of 13" suffice?

As a rule I'm not paranoid about identity theft but I am somewhat disconcerted by the amount of information that is stolen (or just plain released) every year from all the databases that are now being collected.

We just had to flag my wife's Credit Reports, bank accounts,...etc...as someone got ahold of her SSN and started opening accounts around California from somewhere in North Carolina. Believe it or not...it was Credit Karma that alerted us to accounts before any damage was done and with their help, we were able to kill all the credit card accounts they were trying to open.

Generally, the birth date is used for verification purposes to authenticate that you are you.

Yup. Seems pretty funny. However, if you've given the wrong birthdate or a stupid site doesn't give you the ability to verify the information before it inputs it into the system and the date is wrong.... you might need to change it. Happened to me on one site and they send me birthday greetings during the wrong month. Haven't found it worth the trouble to correct it.

Must Laugh! Not Offended either.
Yep, sometimes I wish I could turn the clock back a few years myself.
Thanks for the chuckle.
