And, of course, the Bristol NASCAR race! One more item checked off on our bucket list.
We ended up with lots of email addresses from the great folks camping in that small park (Up The Creek...35 spaces) and even from the folks here in the US from Holland in a Leprechaun, four kids and the parents. They were there specifically to drive through the Smoky Mountain National Park...then off to Gettysburg and the White House...*huge* American History buffs. They've toured the West coast and flew in to NY, rented the RV and are now touring the East coast.
They spoke amazingly good English (it's required there, along with German, beginning in 9th grade) and I only stumped her once, with her profession...she struggled with the correct adjectives...turns out she's an Occupational Rehab Specialist. She knows the correct title now!
I swear I'm reliving my childhood...when we traveled 2 weeks every year in a Country Squire station wagon and a tent...only this time we're doing it with a much greater level of comfort, and this time I'm documenting it all, not just with pictures...which I have tons of, along with the old Brownie Camera Mom took 'em with.
First off, Weezer, I gotta say your posts are always
enjoyable to read.
We met a couple from Holland while in Vietnam (they were vacationing, we were adopting our DD) and had a great time talking with them while touring around. He was an IT guy and she was a fashion person and they both fell for our little girl nearly as much as we had.
Scandinavia is really high on our bucket list.
Now to the original post, I started keeping a log just to track the miles on the trailer for maintenance (brakes, lube), but it has evolved to capture a lot more about each trip. We also have a magnet from each place we've visited and I have a shot glass from each attraction that stays at home. I am hoping the kids will enjoy having the memories some day. Looking forward to doing a long vacation with the trailer.
