keeping rain out of the electric jack

A storm just blew in (hallelujah! relief from the heat hopefully) and I immediately thought about that nightmare thread about the jack collapsing and dropping the TT.

So outside I went, looking for a bucket the right size. Nothin doin, so I came in and got a one gallon ziplock. Snug fit but I worried about air circulation.

Walking into the garage I spotted one of those 4 gallon disposable water bottles (no deposit, no return). VOILA! Cut the top out of that (leaving part of the throat) and it's perfect to drop over the top of the motor/gear housing. It's deep so it's not likely to blow off. If it does I'll use a paper hole punch to put some elastic thru the holes to tie it on.

Jack Bonnet! Redneck style.

That's a temporary fix. I've got some vinyl and a sewing machine that'll handle it, so I'll be making a permanent drawstring bag to put over it.

I just thought of another quick fix....

The large containers of liquid laundry detergent...the kind with the push button spigot....cut the top out, holes and string...

perfect oblong shape,

Ain't got an empty one right now, but I will soon!

On my 3500lb barker I just cut the top off a one gallon container of windshield washer fluid and it goes over it snug as a bug yo bong need anything to hold it on it just stays there.

DDC that's exactly what I was thinking of with the large laundry detergent jug.

Koo, no fair, that looks like a "store bought" one!

to keep the cover on the jack I use a plastic pail, I then installed a clamp (same type used to attach a broom handle to the wall), and use the weight of the safety chains to hold the pail in place. The clamp allows me to attach the cord of the 7 way plug to keep it up and out of the weather also.

If Koo's wife won't make you one, you can buy one.

If you can't or don't want to make your own Amazon.com has one for an Ultra Fab Jack, It fits other jacks too but will not work on Odessey jacks. Price is about $13. I have mine on a StrombergCarlson jack, the one in the Jack Failed thread. Hope it solves the problem.
