Kid control

Looking for tips and tricks on how to keep little ones in their bunk bed. I have a 1 year old we will need to almost make a crib out of a bunk for, and a 4 year old i want to just make sure she cant roll out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can use a side rail that slides under the mattress but you will want additional padding on the bed so they don't feel the metal bars. You can create a roll on the side for the 4 yr old using a pool noodle or pillow but I wouldn't use that for the 1 yr old for fear of suffocating themself.

I just came across this but I would check the width measurements.

That would work for the 4 year old i think but i will probably just try the pool noodle thing for her. 1 year old would just crawl out of that. Thinking i may have to build something to stop him.

For the 1 year old, use a pack and play. Losing the floor space sucks, but it's safer. OR, literally do what you said and make a custom crib out of the bunks.

For the 4 year old- either the pool noodle, or IKEA has an inexpensive clamp on rail. We use it for our 3 year old.

I took a couple boards, and shelf brackets. Stained the boards to match, screwed one set down, and put the other on clips, to be remove able.

yeah we used a pack and play last year and it did suck. Now we have a camper with 4 bunks in the back and we were hoping to get away from that

In the bunkhouse, we set it up and could leave it there. But occasionally had guests where it had to be setup in our living room - we would set it up and break it down each day (and for naps).

I'd rather have a safe sleeping environment for the baby than anything else.

I did explore building a crib. One of my ideas was to buy an IKEA one and modify it to fit our space.
