Kitchen Knives

I got a very nice set of knives for DW for the kitchen at home for our anniversary (yes I trust her that much). We want to put the old knives in the TT. There are 5 knives and the steel. I'm looking for ideas for storing them for travel. A couple of things I'm thinking of is cut slots in the wood on the back of the stove (as long as they don't touch anything). The other is to keep them in the block and wrap it up and lay it in the oven. Any other ideas?

You could velcro the block to the counter top or maybe use these

I keep my knives in the slots cut in the back of the stove. I never realized those slots were there for knives until I watched a YouTube sales video for our Rockwood 2604. I do have more knives than slots (steak knives) and keep those in my silverware drawer with regular table knives.

I used to keep mine in the built in slots behind the stove until I realized that the area was much more of a knife warmer area when the oven is in :-) Now I have gone to one nice Pampered Chef knife that stores in its own sharpener and just keep it in the silverware drawer.

The knife slots seemed a great idea until you need to use the range. Then the handles get in the way of the range cover. I like the Velcro a knife block and will look into a small one for the useless corner counter area behind the sink.

I had my husband remove the stove cover as it came bent and never laid right. We replaced it with the cutting board and love it.

Herk, in our Rockwood the knives aren't in the way of the range cover, but access to them does get blocked by the cover when it's raised. We put the knives there, but we may move them in the future.

Our range doesn't have a cover. I use a cutting board.

I use a magnetic knife holder. I was a bit leary as to whether or not the knives would stay attached to it while traveling but so far, so good. I've made two trips to florida and back with it. SImilar to this-

Even my stainless knives stick, go figure.

He was mulling over spending that on a knife sharpener, would he use it enough to justify it.

I told him.....I haven't figured out yet what to get the man who has every thing...so Happy Father's Day!

I swear, he's sharpened every thing in the house since then. Thankfully we bought extra belts. He's gonna need 'em.

Seriously, they put a shaving edge on knives. Works on scissors and outdoor tools too.
