Knife rack - will a magnetic one hold?

We want to put a knife rack on the wall in our TT. Will a magnetic one hold the knives? Or will we pull into the campground with knives all over the floor.

While it should work fine, I'm not sure I'd trust it, especially if you travel over some rough roads or go to some unimproved sites.

Most knives have a good amount of stainless steel in them now and they're not as magnetic as the good old carbon steel knives, so they will be more prone to jarring loose from a magnetic holder.

We had one for all of a single trip. Roads on the Oregon coast are not always smooth so we now keep them in a block under the sink when travel.

While traveling we, TT, we keep our knives wrapped up in a dish towel either in the sink or under the stove cover. While set up they stay on the magnetic holder.

I have the Camco knife safe, and while it isn't the most stylish, it doen't look out of place in the trailer. We just traded in and my DH thought it came with it when I told hime I had to get a new one. Mounted it with the double-sided mounting tape and it held to the wall for over two years.

This is a safest way to do it.

I bought a magnetic tool or wrench holder from the automotive section which mounts on the wall bOver the last 3 years I've never had a knife or scissors or bottle opener fall off.

We bought three magnetic strips from IKEA, doubled up a row for the cutting/chopping knives, and use the other for misc utensils. Have driven over 16k miles through 23 states, all type of road conditions, not one issue or concern the knives are going anywhere, holds tight.

Maqnets have a nasty "habit" of dulling knives that have recently been sharpened. This can be further aggravated when the knives fall onto the floor of your RV during transit. Do not keep sharp knives in a drawer. Use a wooden block designed for the purpose, and always place the knives into the block in such a way that, when you reach for one and pull it out of the block, the cutting side is where you expect it to be. Otherwise there could be blood shed. During transit, if you have limited storage space, you can place the knife block into your kitchen sink and wrap it in a kitchen towel for safety.

Is this the two magnet one you are referring to?

We have the one from Ikea in our coach for over 50,000 K and also had in our fifth wheel for a # of years. Never had a problem with it and would put an one in a new RV again.

It will hold them until it doesn't. I use the cheapo white handle commercial knives from SAMs Club and the Old Hickory 1095 knives. I keep them in a drawer. If they get damaged I will either fix them or replace them. They hold an edge well and take an edge well.

So reading all the replies gives me the impression there are 2 camps, one who have used a magnetic rack and never had as issue, and those who would never use a magnetic rack and have offered alternate methods. My DW really wants to free up draw space so it's either the rack (non-magnetic or magnetic) or the block in the sink idea someone had. She REALLY likes the magnetic version, so now I need to find the best version of that and see if we lose any knifes.

Here's pics of our setup, the double row is on the sidewall, the single is on the sidewall of the frig so a forward facing wall. Great for the salt and pepper shakers if you find metal ones.

That's awesome! DW is sold. Thank you for the pics, that clarified the "double row" idea.

Not the best picture but you can see ours on the left wall under the paper towel roll.

That looks like it has a double row of magnetics? Is it a more high end one than the IKEA version that is all of $15?
